Wide Open Spaces - collaboration with Lynn

Wide Open Spaces - collaboration with Lynn

I asked Lynn if he'd do the vocal track on this song and
he graciously accepted. And he did more. And he did a great job!

Lynn: Vocal, drum, bass, violin, organ tracks
Me: lead guitar and rhythm gtr tracks

This song is about our disappearing wilderness.

https://soundcloud.com/orygun/wide-open-spaces

so you want  to get away
out in nature for a day
those places getting hard to find
because of humankind

I'm grateful for those places
With those wide open spaces
A refuge of reality
where nature can set you free

but some people say
All that land is locked away
We should put that land to use
Such a waste it's just a view

tho it's pretty to see
you can't eat scenery
we need what's underneath
dig it up for the economy

so gotta keep things going
gotta keep on growing
what we need is there for the taking

bid the wilderness  goodbye
no one should  cry
gonna  give us more fuel for a while.

I'm grateful for those places
With those wide open spaces
it's there where we belong
and where we started from

but some people say
The land has got to pay its way
Don't need more conservation
make way for the excavation

gotta keep things going
gotta keep on growing
what we need is there for the taking

bid the wilderness  goodbye
no one should cry
gonna give us more fuel for a while

we don't  need that pretty view
if there ain't no revenue
so send in the wrecking crew

    Nice treat of a collab. Great to hear Lynn's voice again - where has he been lately?

    I liked that instrumental break in the middle as well.

    I dunno, for variation, maybe the second or third verse in, the bass could percolate a rhythm instead of just long bass sustains? Something to put a little rump-shaking drive into it? Ever hear a band called The Samples? They do that sort of thing a lot.

    Your song makes me yearn for the middle of nowhere. I used to road trip out there a lot. It's good to be aware of. I like your travel vids, Bjorn!

    I just want to pipe in here to thank Bjorn for including me in this song.  Back in April, I had an accident where I tore my left quad muscle from the bone and had to have surgery to reconnect it.  I was in a leg brace for 4 months and was unable to work in my studio for most of that time.  I'm better now, but I'm relearning to walk and sit normally, so my time is still limited in my studio, but this song was like therapy for me.

    Tom, I agree with you about the bass, which I spent very little time with, thinking that Bjorn would probably replace it in the long run.  For me, the key to this song is the lyrics, which Bjorn shows a deft hand at irony and humor, while still conveying a timely message.  His guitar tracks inspired my performance and contributions.  Thanks to all who listen and comment!  I hope to spend more time here listening to others and enjoying your music.

    All the best,
    Lynn

    Sounds really good. Nice job all around. Could maybe use a bit of a hook (catchy chorus), but it's fine the way it is too. Excellent mix.

    @Tom
    I agree on the bass track. I'll liven it up in the next version. My "next version" never seems to happen but I really like this song esp the vocal by Lynn so I'll work on it.

    Thank you for the comment on my travel videos. There's nothing like being somewhere where you can experience total silence.

    @Makke
    Thanks for taking the time to listen

    @Wookiee
    Thanks for  the comment.

    @Bill
    "Excellent mix"  makes my day. I know what you mean by a catchy hook. I'm putting that on the checklist for the next version.

    @Steve
    Baggage? Yeah, I guess. I read about the proposals to drill here and mine there and...don't get me started.

    Sorry to hear about your injury Lynn but it's great to see you back on the forum.  Bjorn and Lynn excellent arrangement, performance, and mix.  The lyrics are also excellent --- without our healthy natural places, a healthy physical environment, and clean air and water, we all will be too sick or too dead to concern ourselves with other matters.
