Great to hear this Noel!

Best of luck to you and the 'Labers. I hope it's a great show.

I'm really glad to hear that the new team will have an AES presence! Big step!

I wish I could join you there, but it's not currently in the cards for me.

I will most certainly be wishing all of you "break a leg" and await hearing the tales when you return!

At the risk of being a kill-joy they've made a huge change this year, the exhibit floor closes Friday evening, Saturday is reserved for papers and other sessions. Not sure why they did this, I can't imagine how it will increase floor traffic, but hey, I don't run trade shows for a living, so what do I know.

If all goes as planned (which ain't often!) I will be there all day Thursday, hope to catch up with the Bandlab crew.

the exhibit floor must be lacking visitors recently, so getting them all on the one day (increasing traffic for that day) rather than spread across 2 makes sense

I am hoping I can get there early enough on Saturday to find a seat at the Blue Tooth MIDI engineering brief.

But seriously, HO6: "...the marketing techniques used to convince people to ditch their one-speaker listening system and embrace 2-channel stereophony." seems like a fascinating subject. I hope someone phones it and posts it on YouTube so I can watch at my leisure.

It's kinda ironic to see a Les Paul and an ES-335 in the same booth.

I had a chance to stop by the booth at AES.  I had a nice chat with Mike Balzarini from BandLab who you can see facing the camera in the picture above.  Mike is a Cakewalk emigre.  He was a support guy at Cakewalk.  Noel was pretty busy, which is a good thing, but I did get to say hi.  There was some good interest from attendees, at least for the 10 minutes or so I was there.  I was struck by the guitars as well.  They are Heritage guitars, now a member of the BandLab family.  I played the 335 style guitar for a minute or two.  It feels very much like ES-335, has a very Gibson-y neck.  Anyway, it was a nice visit and I hope they continue on their path.  Mike indicated that there was a lot of positive energy and activity up in Massachusetts.

I'm very interested to see what Meng and co. do with the Teisco and Harmony brands.

My friend Mike Robinson at Eastwood Guitars has done very well by the Airline brand, faithful reissues. They list in the $600-700 range.

I'd like to see Teisco return to its roots as an inexpensive guitar, but with the original body shapes and quirky pickups.

The Chinese guitar building companies are making some very good axes these days.

Yeah, I always thought all the Teisco stuff was made in Japan. Kawai owned them for a while, and although some of their products (I think) might have been made in Korea, the Teisco stuff was always made in Japan.

Manufacturing electronic products in China makes sense, as there's loads of companies there with the technology & facilities to mass produce them at a very low cost.

For acoustic instruments though, probably not so much unless you're selling a re-badged copy of something a company is already manufacturing.

Hi all,

I just got back yesterday from the show so just getting to check on the forums again. Sorry I couldn't post from there. Bad internet and the show was really busy for us. I've posted quite a bit on social media but here is an update for all of you who may not have seen it.

Thanks to all of you who came and met us.  We had an awesome show at AES that exceeded expectations. We literally had hundreds of users who stopped by and we gave demos and answered questions. It was very inspiring to meet everyone and hear their experiences with Cakewalk. So many had used Cakewalk since the 90's and earlier and had stories to share. I also recorded some interviews with a few users who stopped by. I'll collect them and we'll post later.

The demos went great and people were really impressed with all the new features we've added to CbB over the last months including elastique and all the PRV and color management improvements. I even had SONAR there to show people side by side how much had changed.

Our rig at AES:
Surface Book 2 with pen/dial. We had a Samsung 32" curved display, KEF LS 50 wireless speakers, Focusrite 6i6, BandLab Link analog and digital, Korg Nanokey studio bluetooth, Heritage H-535 and H-150 guitars.

Cakewalk performed flawlessly on the Surface Book all 3 days. I had a scare on the first morning when I hooked it all up and BbB wouldn't start. It turned out to be caused by the infamous bluetooth bug in Windows where a disconnected device can hang when you try and open it. Fortunately it was solved by turning on the device. Microsoft apparently has a patch that addresses this which isn't available yet to end users.
