Mmmm. I bought Cubase 9.5 pro in the cross-grade offer following the Gibson fiasco but I have never used it in anger and I am still working quite happily with Bandlab Cakewalk. Cubase has advantages in some areas but I am in my comfort zone.

    I wonder:
    1. What the upgrade cost will be.
    2. If there will be any features that will get me to start using it where i have not used 9.5.

    Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

Whatever the upgrade price is, it's almost certain that if you wait until next summer, there will be a 50% discount for a week or so.  Most of my upgrades since I started using Cubase were done via that summer sale.  The last version (the one that came out a year ago) actually had some features I wanted right away, so I didn't wait for the summer sale.  I think I paid about $100 USD for that upgrade, but it was a 0.5 upgrade.  I can't recall what the price was for the 9.0 to 9.5 upgrade.

    Did you activate the license?
If not then you should get the latest version free.

Edit: Your Cubase license become registered the first time you activate it.  And at that time you'll get the latest version or if you're within the grace period for a new release receive you'll also receive that version free when it's released.

I seriously doubt that there's a loophole like that to exploit.  I can't believe there's any way that Steinberg would sell someone a Cubase upgrade at half-off and throw in the next upgrade for free.

They really only throw in the next upgrade free if you activate (not install or reinstall or reactivate) your new license either within the grace period before a new release or after it's been released.

But aside from that - Yup, that's how it works. It's up to you when you activate your license.
Like Glyn I purchased Cubase Pro when Gibson killed Sonar but I never activated it because at the time I really didn't have time to get into it and use it.  I've been waiting for v10.

    Grace Period Update

Customers activating an older version of Cubase (from version 6) on October 18, 2017, or later, whereas a newer version is already available, receive from Steinberg once (!) a so-called free Grace Period update to activate the current version available to that time. This offer is commonly valid for full versions, education versions, updates and upgrades.

If a newer version is released shortly after activation (usually within a four-week period), you may be entitled to the Grace Period update irrelevant of the current version having been granted at the time of activation.

    Check Grace Period validation now

Please note: Cubase is activated as soon as you have entered your activation code within the eLicenser Control Center (eLCC). Please note that the date of activation is the determining factor — not the date of purchase or the registration date.

Mine was activated long ago. I have played around with it but not used it in anger.

I just bought it today, and the upgrade (from 9.5 Pro) was $99.00. I bought it right away.
