Just typed in a list with links on my phone (not easy) and it has disappeared after posting.

So the abridged version (you'll have to use Google)

-FXpansion Tremor
-AUDIOREALISM DRUM MACHINE

Also if you have access to an iPad there's Ruismaker, Elastic Drums and iSpark (probably cheaper than desktop version) for starters.

Tremor has been moved to Legacy, which means that resellers can't sell it, and it's only a full price from FXpansion of $150 (but without support). Expansion have a $50 transfer policy, so second hand prices are forced high.

I think it's excellent. and picked it up with strobe to get the most of the $50 transfer fee. I's synthis really flexible and their  some good videos that show how capabl their TranMod system is for adding shaping. With main amp envelope and two extra envelops for sculpting the sound, I simply don't understand why Tremor2 wasn't in the works. It looks like the are going to implement the process into another future synth. Maybe they will combine Geist and Tremor into one in the future.

User 2:43 AM has one for sale I believe with another FXpansion plugin.

Bash von Gitfiddle
Hi,
I am interested in selecting a good synthesized or modeled drum machine instrument. I have found some good sample based instruments that were sampled from old synthetic devices.

I have begun a personal project that is based on a retro synth motif, and so I want every sound to come from a synthesized and modeled mathematical source rather than a sample. I have been using a lightweight Bedroom Producers Cassette 808 and 909 drum sampled kit for my early demos but would like to swap to a traditional synth based kit.

Arturia's Spark 2 software seems like a possible choice because it does have some exclusively modeled drum sets.

Roland has the cool Roland tr 808 VSTi, but it is only offered as an uncool cloud subscription, with a rent to own contingency that equates to an outrageous price.

Ideally, the software will be lightweight and efficient so that I may use it on my laptop away from my DAW.

I want to use the drum instrument as a MIDI driven VSTi in a DAW host on a windows based system.

I have not thought about something like this until recently, so I feel like there may be many choices I am not aware of.

Thank you for any suggestions you may make.

I think you could be right.

The Aly James Lab VPROM 2.0 - It's a virtual Linn LM-1 drum machine (Minus the pattern sequencer)! The data from the LM=1's EPROM chips are translated into VST form, and even the hi-hat behaves just like the LM-1's HH!

If you've always wanted to sound like Prince or early '80s new-wave or R&B, you NEED this.

Can also go with a straight-up synth. Chandler has done some nice overviews and constructed an 808ish sound right off the bat in this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Du-pWfHk_I You can do similar in many different synths with the same parameters exposed.

With the advancement of VSTs, a lot of the parameters on a synth (ASDR, Cutoff, Resonance, etc.) are built into the tail end of many samplers nowadays, so even a generic "sample" can be mutated into just about any sound.

You may already have either or even both off the above already available.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Rob Papen's Punch has synthesized drum parts as well as samples and a sequencer.  But it's not really trying to emulate any classic anything, might be harder to get a "real" retro vibe out of it.

Check out Drumatic 4 as it was an update of a freeware legend:

Drumatic 3 is free so you could get that one as a teaser.

If you want a taste of what Drumatic can do, here's a playlist of patches that a KVR user made (and sells the whole set of patches for $15 on sellfy).

https://soundcloud.com/studio_4/sets/drumatic-studio-1/s-HFrtJ

Really matches many of the classic drum sounds of the past.

More things you might want to consider, Softube Heartbeat and Waldorf Attack.  I got Heartbeat with a Softube bundle but I've never really used it. I only have the LE version of Attack but it seems pretty pure in the drum synth no sequencer class.  Though it's kind of buggy.  The LE version can be gotten pretty cheap.

Back in the day Microtonic was pretty well regarded but it's no sale price and no development makes it seem kind of overpriced.  If it would go on a blow out sale I'd pick it up just for the sake of having it.

I’ve tried using Attack a few times over at least a decade, and currently have the iOS version on an ipad. Be warned that Attack’s quite buggy and Waldorf, much as I love their synths (I have a Pulse II and a MicroQ), aren’t the best company in the world when it comes to bug fixing. Or even making sure their products keep up with major updates to operating systems.

Heartbeat is definitely worth a look, yes it’s a bit “modular like” but it’s pretty good at what it does.

Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre.
Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

No, this is Mike McCue, is easier to identify from post counts. There might be a variation of the Darwin Award for this behavior that he is vying for, who knows?
