Especially For You-Original

Hot off the press.  Busy song, i know.  Kinda like "Whatever's On Your Mind" but a bit more complex.  I save the horns for the last verse.  I had a lot of fun with the Trilian Bass Module on this, especially with the slides.  Hope I didn't overdo that but I love that sound.  Built from a chord progression I found in Scaler and I ran them through EZ Keys browser.  Anyway, enjoy "Especially For You"

    Hi, John,

I really like this classy sounding, jazzy pop rocker!

Clever songwriting, tasty performances on all the instrumentation, great vocals, and Trillian and the horns at the end both sound very authentic!

The mix sounds clear and punchy, with nice separation and a full texture.

Cool stuff, John, really nice work, have a great day!

I certainly agree with the comments above -- this is a cool, classy, jazzy song.  I like that the song shows complexity but yet it flows smoothly.  Very good lyrics also.  Nice one!!

I loved it!!! Just needs the Manhattan Transfer on backing vocals and you'd really be in the chips. Now if I could just find their phone number....

What about Boz Scaggs? It gave me a little Boz feel for some reason.

nifty chord changes, and some deft drum programming. nice tune, bro.

    Thanks Freddy, Bill & ES-
Oooo, Boz Scaggs!  Love his stuff.

It isn't drum programming per se, more like pre set loops, but I still appreciate the compliment.

Very cool. Love the voicing on the chords and overall feel. Lyrics are good - it’s solid from start to finish. Whatever drum loops you used are working really well- sound great and a terrific feel. Bass has a nice punchy sound and piano and horns feel real good. The only crit and a minor one is that you vocal seems to strain in parts (I can’t sing at all so I shouldn’t even mention this - but of course I just did).

If I had to compare it to I’d say it has a steely dan kind of vibe. Yes, that’s a compliment

    Great job.

Nice one John, I get an Al Jarreau vibe from it, or maybe Michael Franks. Good writing.

    Manny & James-Thanks!

I have asthma so everything I sing, no matter how high or low, sounds strained.
Michael Franks, Al Jarreau and Steely Dan.  I love all three.  Thanks!

Maybe I'm naive, but I'm impressed that you don't stumble on the lyrics in a complex
song like this. Don't think I would know where the next verse comes in much less the next word.
Anyway, wonderful lyrics in a great song. And that bass sounds so good.
