Pat - it's much more powerful now. Good job. We'll talk after you get home. Have a great vacation.

Pat - I should also mention I had Amy sit down and listen to "Maria" and she likes it a lot. She likes your voice too. She said she thinks it's too long and had some issues with the sturcture - sound familiar? No - I didn't coahcer her, either. That's what happens when you're married for 10+ years.

Thanks,

wow, this is an awesome song! i noticed a couple things though: the first part with the fast vocals is not repeated anywhere else in the song. the structure seems to go "telephone voice" - "chorus" - "verse w/ fast vocals" - "pre-chorus/bridge?" - "chorus" - "lead guitar" - "telephone voice" - "extended chorus" - "lead guitar". this is more interesting than verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus and the uniqueness is good, but i don't get the feeling of coherency in the first part of the song.

along with a bit of pitch issues i think i hear a bit of timing issues as well during the "fast verse". the vocal feels just slightly behind the instruments, but it's consistent throughout that part. it just sounds like you are trying to catch up. sliding that whole section forward a few ms might resolve it... everything else is fine.

this is some real good stuff. i was especially impressed with the mix and how you were able to capture the genre but still sound unique.

This is due to the fact that there is only one verse in this song. I don't anticipate this changing, to be honest. The song is already a tad too long, so adding a verse at this point might be counterproductive.

Hm. thanks, I will try to work on this. I didn't hear it, but I also didn't listen for it!

Thanks for the input! Glad you like it!

yeah i understand - i've never been one to mess with the structure of my songs unless i wanted to do it myself (rather than at someone else's opinion). you have what you have and that's what you want, structure-wise.

it's not very much. i only noticed it because i've been recently paying real close attention to timing on my guitar playing and singing against the timing (either quantized or groove-quantized) of the bass and drums. my timing (which i used to think was fine) i am now seeing is off, and generally too far behind the beat. it's a matter of milliseconds, mind you, but i guess it's like tuning a guitar - when you don't know, it sounds fine. the more you learn about tuning the harder it is to get it "perfect." =) it's also a matter of what kind of feel you want to bring to the song. being slightly behind the beat gives a sense of being laid back, being slightly in front of the beat gives a sense of urgency or "pushing". i would think in this genre you would want more of a straight or slightly pushing feel.

anyway it's a great song and i hope that helps somewhat.

Easy - She has her opinions, you have yours and a lot of this is a matter of personal taste. But she did think it was a fine song, indeed.

Hey Pat, Sounds great. I'll tell you, this thing can knock over a brick house. I like the arrangement/structure, a lot of nice variation, goes where it wants to go, and with that much attitude, who's going to try and stop it? I enjoyed kicking in on this. And, our secret agent man here, Dan, did some really fine guitar work.

Thanks! He's a real cool kid - very musical. He loved the melodic solo I did over this song. He just kept listening to it over and over and over again...

Do you have children?

Thanks again,

Hi Patrick, you should know that I have a Hamm folder on my hard drive. We really like your stuff. Dan and Ed really did bring this tune up a level. Very tasteful efforts. Kudos to you for keepind the jazz out of it!

BTW, my wife Becky says to double the vocal on the chorus sections.

Great job, as usual from you.
