"the wild animals", 2nd mix
https://soundcloud.com/bats-brew/the-wild-animals-1 geek stuff: a non mastered file, i mixed this into a Limiter across the master bus, and output at 16 bit 44.1khz. it's about -12rms. mix issues working on: kick-bass-snare lock low end tightness versus fullness how much more high end does this need.

Great stuff Rob. Cracking groove, sounds simple but loads of little details going on. Really like that ''grab 'em by the short hairs'' section into the breakdown, then back to the groove, excellent stuff.

What can one say, the production quality is top notch and this deserves more recognition than the number of plays on Soundcloud has given it. Nice on Rob and keep em coming.

lyric: The Wild Animals Just because they smile, and grease back their hair, Doesn’t mean there’s any kind of heart in there They’ll give you pellets of poison to put in your tea, They say there’s nothing phucking wrong with me Please, do not feed the wild animals Better left alone, the wild animals It’s a kick back, kick YOU, nothing you can really do, If you give em a chance, they’ll chase you into the Afterlife too! “lets book a trip to the Riviera, Sarah, bring the doctor along” “nobody will miss us back home”, When the sh!t goes wrong Please, do not feed the wild animals Better left alone, the wild animals It’s just the modern chemistry, the artistry of grabbing by the short hairs, They stay awake at night, and they count their money til the Morning light It’s a cautionary tale, that we all can relate It’s a taste of a real time devils delight At the cocktail party, or the local church family affair The poison pellets are playing truth or dare. Please, do not feed the wild animals Better left alone, the wild animals

Hey, Rob, How's it going, brother? Hope you're doing great! Guess i already missed the first mix, but you've got a very cool, rocker with excellent songwriting, great playing and vocals, as always, and a nice clear, wide mix! Lots of cool tasty tidbits popping up throughout the whole song, and I really like the little solo adlib fills after the break. Anyway, great stuff as usual, Rob, and I'm always glad to catch a of new Batsbrew production while they're fresh out of the oven! Have a good one, buddy! Bob

hey james! thanks for checking this one out.. yea, lots of stuff going on, over a pretty straightforward beat. that breakdown, yea, once the last cymbal hits, i blend in 3 guitars feeding back in unison.... almost sounds like a keyboard break

appreciate that biodiode! well, it had only been on the soundcloud for about 15 minutes before i posted it! so, since these are working demos/songs, i don't like to leave them up for more than a few days, but i'll post updates as i get feedback and make changes accordingly. i mean, i don't do everything that everyone suggests, but i read every suggestion, and if it's an eye opener, i run with it....

really very good Bats. Great hook I don't believe it needs any more high end. There is a tone somewhere that is ringing - maybe tightening up the low end would remove it.

As always, the recording, the vocals and the musicianship is awesome. The song itself is great little rocker. I like the one-off stuff , especially some wacky timing and musical events that caught me off guard around the 2:15 area.
The fact that a 69 year old dude likes this could been seen as a negative thing - but that’s life - this is good stuff.

This sounds quite close here Bat's, did you use SD3 on this? I am sure the few tweaks it needs will become obvious to you.

Kudos on the arrangement, which always keeps the listener's attention . . . "what's next? what's he doing now???" - super original all the way through. The sections are excellent, and you don't run too long with one idea, before another excellent one pops up. and, kudos on the performances. Cracking guitars, drums, excellent vocals. Very real and powerful performances. that is all! nice work! -Tom

Just took a second (and third) listen comparing my new DT990's to my ATH-M50's. Lots more detail on the 990's (open vs. closed back?), will have to take them out to the studio and compare to the 770's. But back on topic. If I was mixing it; couple of very minor changes, just a "season to taste" thing-nothing important. If you have a performance issue? (if there is its probably only something you hear) Fix it. Then Master it up Bat! T

daryl1968 really very good Bats. Great hook I don't believe it needs any more high end. There is a tone somewhere that is ringing - maybe tightening up the low end would remove it.
thanks so much daryl..... that tone, i think i found it. it's a midrange from the snare, i think. i've tweaked the low end quite a bit now, and i think it's getting close, wil post an update soon Mannynyagain As always, the recording, the vocals and the musicianship is awesome. alright manny, getting old, and still rocking, i dig it. that's cool. Wookiee This sounds quite close here Bat's, did you use SD3 on this? I am sure the few tweaks it needs will become obvious to you.
hey wookiee! i did NOT use sd3 on this, i didn't have it when i wrote and finalized this mix (if i output the raw wave data and mix it in my own mixer, i ain't goin' back!!! heheh) so, it begs the question..... would it be WORTH going back, and finding a new kit? i tend to not work with click, metro, etc, and i'll even do stupid stuff, like shift entire sections of songs with a nudge here, nudge there, NOTHING will ever line up again!! so maybe, i can't go back on this one. but i've got several that are just getting started, i will be moving over for those. emeraldsoul Kudos on the arrangement, which always keeps the listener's attention . . . hey tom, thanks a lot for listening..... i DO work at the changeups... i'm trying to NOT write songs that just fall into place, there are enough of those around already. i'm trying to find a way to do groovy rock rhythms, and aggressive but melodic guitar parts, that still catch the ear like a good earworm should. and i guess, i favor the ADHD crowd. LOL
