Best way to temporarily alter pitch / tempo of a project then switch back?
Whats the best if not easiest way to temporarily alter the pitch and/or tempo of a CbB project for overdubbing purposes? For example if I wanted to do something like this: Jamie Lidell crafting vocal

Not sure if you will find this "simple," but the last post in this thread describes synth recording as well as a link to an SOS article on it for SONAR.

RME interfaces can vary the sample rate by as much as +/- 5%.
So basically you have the vari-speed found on many multi-track tape-decks.
Helps when I'm struggling with those "rock falsetto" high notes that I
pretty much "wore out" back in the day.
I think in Reaper you can vary pitch, and or speed (its been almost a year since I messed with it).
Setup a "cue", track it, then bring the wav files back in CbB.

To overdub at a different tempo, create a premix and time stretch it so it fits in the desired tempo. Do your overdub, and after completing it, stretch the overdub to the original tempo and delete the premix.
For a different pitch, make a premix and use the DSP's transpose feature. Do your overdub, and after completing it, transpose the overdub to the original pitch and delete the premix.
To change pitch and tempo simultaneously like tape varispeed, create a premix and follow the procedure in the link in Mettelus's post #2.

Honestly, this is one of the areas where Sonar could really use some improvement. If you've got a mid to large sized project, and you need to change the tempo and/or pitch even the slightest bit, you're in for an arduous task. Especially when compared w/ other daws that make it a pretty simple process. I'm in the middle of doing this w/ an old project as we speak, and it has been quite a pain.

Craig, Why haven't you created some video tutorials of the work that you do with SO,..uhhh I mean CbB. If you have, where are they? This would be great for a site such as Groove3. You have so much in depth knowledge pertaining to the software. The stuff they have up on their site for Cakewalk is old and it doesn't cover deep in-depth work performed in CbB. Also, The Huge Book of Cakewalk By BandLab Tips is that a combination of the "The Big Book of SONAR Tips" and "The Second Big Book of SONAR Tips"? Now I 'm curious on how to obtain the Pro tools Pan Pots in CbB. Heeeheee

Yes, it is a combined and edited for CbB version of the original two SONAR tips books. The "Pro Tools-Style Dual Panpots" from "The Big Book of SONAR Tips" is not in the "Huge Book of Cakewalk By BandLab Tips" because Channel Tools is not bundled with CbB. However, Crag was kind enough to provide the text for this in this post.

I need to check out where Jamie is at, at the moment. I saw him live about 10 years ago when he was doing his crazy live looping/beat boxing sets. Stunning live. Then really enjoyed his Multiply work, but kind of went of his work after that. This sounds like a return to his Multiply form.
