Saving As Mp3

I just did my first recording in Cakewalk Guitar Tracks and i wanted to save as a mp3. It pops up a box telling me that I must pay for a plugin or something to save as a mp3. Are you kidding me? I bought the program and now I have to pay more money to save in a file format so I can share it with friends?? Is there any other way around this? Thanks.

You can save it as .wma and covert it into a mp3 with a different program. If you go to downloads.com you can download free ones. The one that comes with cakewalk if free for like 10 days or something like that. It doesn't start until you use it first. But it is prety retarted. I think that you loose something when you convert it so many times. Hope it helps.

Try this-Get your song/project the way you want it. Go to tools-mixdown audio-export to files. files of type save it as a wave (.wav). Go to http://www.sourceforge.netThey have a free, open source mutli track recorder with an Mp3 export feature with NO time limit.
The recorder is called Audacity. I had a few bad links before- And not enough caffeine!!

Or you could pay the $29.00 and not have to mess with all the extra work of converting with different programs.

Mix to a wave file and then convert with dbPowerAmp (http://www.dbPowerAmp.com). dbPowerAmp is free and has never given my any problems.

don't pay the $$, go with dbpoweramp. It's free at the site mentioned in Jim's post and also at download.com. I've used db for a while. It's totally user friendly and it's free!!! They'll tell you after the 30 day trial period that you can pay $$ to keep some of the features but ignore it. After the trial period runs out it will still do basic conversion.
