OT: help with rca mono to stereo?

ok....
i bought an external sound card.....a maya44 usb. it was cheap, and i am using it for my notebook to record in volcals.

heres the problem. i wasnt paying attention to the inputs and outputs when i bought it.

it has 4 RCA analog ins and 4 RCA analog outs.

i have a phantom powered mic with a 1/4inch adapter.

i need it to read as a stereo channel (my home computer records in strereo thru the 1/4 line in jack)

so what do i need to get to run the 1/4 adapter into a RCA, but be able to convert it to stereo?

(hope that makes sence......)

thanks.

If I read you correctly, you need to split the mic signal to cover two stereo channels. Normally, you could get a female 1/4" to dual male RCA Y-adapter [Radio Shack has them], resulting in the same mono mic signal in both sides of the stereo input. [This is a passive solution; it's a better idea to do this actively, like with op-amps. Much cleaner, and less susceptible to "anomalies".]

But I see two problems: 1). Where are you going to get the +48V phantom power from? Do you have an internal battery source, or an external PS? 2). You want to go from mic level into a line input; the levels are mismatched, and all you'll hear is hiss. You might need to run through a mixer or preamp to bring the level up first.

Did I come close, or miss the question completely?

    close.

i have a phantom powered box that plugs in.....one cord from the box out to the mic...one cord from the box with a 1/4 inch jack adapter to plug into the computer line in/ or in this case, the external sound card.

the sound card only has 4 analog RCA jacks....1..2..3..4. and out RCA jacks 1..2..3..4
i dont think they are right and left channels.....

i have the Y adapter(1/4 to RCA right and left)...but it still only shows up as a left channel.

i guess i was wondering if there is a way to take the mono signal, and convert it to stereo with only one jack. since there isnt a right and left analog input.

or if there was a plugin that i could put on the track, so that it would slpit the channels for monitoring?
i tried to open two mono tracks...one track at pan right...the othere pan left.....but i was only getting sound from the left channel still.

    thank you..its well appretiated.

if i understand you have a mic (mono) signal in. to double i would simple copy the track after recording it not sure what your direction or motivation is so my answer may not jive with your needs. to do what i believe you are describing you need a 1/4 mono to rca stereo y adapter. plug the left into input 1 of the soundcard and right into input 2. you may find less noise with just copying the track. it sounds like you have a 1/4 stereo to rca stereo y adapter

for some reason, it only has sound in the left channel. i need stereo in, so when my singer is listening to the headphone's, she can hear her voice in both speakers.

i am going to look into some other adapters.....i think the xlr 1/4 from the mic isnt fitting the 1/4 to rca Y cable properly.

    thanks.

Is the 1/4" adapter Tip-Ring-Sleeve, or just Tip-Sleeve? What are you using to convert the XLR (balanced) to the 1/4" (presumably, unbalanced)?

I do have a solution that you can use after the signal is in P5/Cubase, but I don't think that'll solve the monitoring situation that you've just described.

sounds like you are plugging a mono 1/4 into a stereo adapter because this will only give you sound in one channel. you need to have a mono to y adapter not a stereo to y. i believe you could just use a mono to stereo plug for your headphone input maybe this would be easier.
