Rock Bottom (trance reworking)

Right, it's only a working mix but here's a tune I've been working on which is a sort of dance track with rock overtones and a rock out ending. Fans of UFO might recognise some of it.

I'm doing a slot in an open mic/guitar night in just over a week -- it's just one song that I'm doing. The audience is going to be a rock crowd. So I wanted to do something a bit different.

Does it work? Does some of it work? Do bits of it suck and need to go? Does all of it suck and I should just play some AC/DC?

EDIT: old version, link removed (5MB)

There are a few bummers in my guitar playing but I've got to play this live so that's what I did here - no overdubs.

Have a listen if you can. Cheers.

Oli

Bump, and a remixed version if anyone's interested:

    Grünfeld,

ok, this could work, but it's not really grooving. Leave out that 5th bassdrum beat in every bar. That's annoying to me. Slight changes at the hihats could help. A bit shuffle or so.
Also it needs a fat bass IMHO.

Cheers Melf, I'll try those ideas now. And yes it does need a fat bass. Man you wouldn't believe how I've tried to get a fat bass! I'm using Triangle II at the moment with a couple of saws (slightly tweeked "bass 013" preset). Any ideas (or presets) gratefully received

    Thanks for your input.

    Last bump.

Drums now changed, perc redone, hats swinging, and a new bass as phat as I can get it.

Nice one. Still could use more low-end oomph (double the bass one octave down with a slightly subsonic patch?). The ending is a bit sudden.

Sounds very good to me. Even with the slowly changing patterns, still exciting. The crowd stuff is overdone for me, a horn section or something musical might add more -- didn't get to the end because my ears were getting tired, but enjoyed what I heard.
