Brighter Than Light

The ending on this track is a bit different but I kind of wanted a change from the usual fade outs. We are trying to change our tracks up a bit since I am feeling that "every track sounds the same" syndrome. I think we have all been there.

I think the fourth guitar chord in the main progression (.48, .56, 1.05) is "wrong". I would play around with that to see if you can derive the chord you "really want" there.

Of course, I may be wrong. :)

I like the bridge with the arepgiated guitar the best and the solo guitar sound is nice, very "Bostonesque".

Yeah, there is something strange about that 4th chord. Are you sliding down to a 5th chord or something? And the progression is very Bostonesque, as is the solo tone (I agree). The melody is also reminiscent of something to me (38 special maybe?). Other than the song itself sounding very repetitive at times I think this is a nice sounding song. I'd be interested in hearing what this would sound like on an acoustic even!

    Dazed,

Not bad at all – a bit long (I’d chop out a minute) but well done. Fourth chord didn’t bother me at all (sort of an F chord within a key of A framework?). I liked the vocal sound and I’d try (not that I could actually do it) to place the lead guit more “inside” the track. Good job.

Reaaly good tune...I enjoyed it all the way through...all your stuff is really great. Top-notch playing, singing, writing, and production...don't change a thing...after all...it is "your" song.

    I'll be waiting for more.

    I liked the tune...

IMO, it had more of a Def Leppard sound, with a White Lion type vocal... The lead had a "Bostonesque" tone to it(though, it needed some nice ROCKMAN STEREO ECHO)...

Just my Humble opinion. The rythm guitar is too loud. When the synth comes it it is barely audible. The cymbal hits are choked too soon in one place. The Toms are panned too much. Liked the harmonies. The balance highs to lows is off, too many highs.

I liked the 'problem chord' for what that's worth.

The very faint synth sounded odd to me; the whole song imo suffered from a kind of rigid rhythm, but maybe that's the style of your music.

Thanks for listening and all the feedback positive and negative. I am 3 months into recording so I am rather new at this. It has been a blast and a huge learning experience.
So any suggestion always helps me along the way.

Thanks again for listening and the feedback!

    Dazed,
I don't hear anything wrong with the chord...reminds me of that old Foreigner song "Feels like the First Time"...
    same type of movement...
I think you would get better separation if the rhythm git was doubled and panned so the vocals and solo could have the center a bit more...
that drum fill at 1:33 kinda throws me, though you come out of it OK...
    good effort all around...

    Thanks RLD :)

That threw me as well at 1:33. My partner is going to go in and redo that drum part.

Thanks for listening and the feedback!

    Dazed,

Listened to "Brighter Than Light." The beginning reminded of
Foreigner a little. It's a good song. Only things I
heard was i feel there's a little too much high end on the
vocals, but it's only my opinion which may differ from others.
Heard a couple of minor timing issues with a couple of drum
fills. I feel the chorus should kick in earlier in the song.
Other than that good job. You have a good voice. Nice
rythym guitar. Bass could come up a little.
    Enjoyed the tune.

Nice tune. Drums seemed a little uptight to me. Good playing and well mixed.

Pluto thanks for listening! I am kind of chuckling because I played this in my car yesterday and I thought the Bass needed to come down and I thought the vocals had too much low end lol. I still have to play it on my main system and see how it sounds hehe. I appreciate the feedback it means a lot.

Pilfa thanks for listening and taking the time to write some feedback. I think my partner may play with the drums a bit more. I appreciate the feedback :)

    Hi, Dazed!

Nice overall sound. Nice pop vocal sound.

I didn't have *any* problem with the "problem chord." That's nothing new - I'm surprised it even became a topic of conversation. Now I'll take a step further and say that I rather liked the drum fill at 1:30! I can see why it throws people - it's triplets, where the drummer hasn't done that anywhere else in the tune up to that point, and it starts with a rest! I liked it, but, to each his own.

I thought the chorus was not very distinguished from the verses. You may want to do something else, either with the arrangement or with background vocals, to point up the chorus.

Thanks M for listening. The triple there throws me so I can see why it throws everyone else. If I had to do vocals with a live drummer there I think I would have missed my queue.

I think you hit on my issue with writing. I am not good at arranging. Hopefully I will get better as I go.

Thanks again for listening and the feedback!
