exporting to .wav file

When I export (mix down) to a .wav file, I am unable to play that song with any music player (Windows Media Player 10, Soundforge, Napster, Rio, etc). Every program says that it does not have the codec to play that song. I am exporting at standard 44k 24 bit. When I export to WMA file at 16 bit- then I can play it. Why does this happen and is there anyway to make a playable .wav file?

export it at 44k 16 bit this will play in windows media player. You should not lose any quality plus you will have to dither it down to this anyway to play it on a cd
Later version of sound forge should be able to play 44/24 bit.

Windows Media Player supports 24 bit playback only if your soundcard does.

    I don't think so.
I have yet to play a 24-bit file in MP. Have you actually done this?
