Just for fun, Doctor Who theme

This one's just for fun and was virtually irresistible for me ! Any
Sci-fi fans here will know that this much loved series returned to
(UK) screens on Saturday to high acclaim. So after getting a midi
file from the net (Doctor_Who_00 from TV Timewarp), throwing a few synths at it (Tau, Vanguard, DS864, Psyn,
Roland Groove player etc), a couple of samples and adding a cheesy
beat here's the result:

Hey, Andy: I haven't listened to your version of it yet, but is your composition based on the original version of the Dr. Who theme music? I always liked that one best: it was really analog(ue)-sounding, and I always played "air-guitar" to the churning rhythm section! <g> I think they may have used an actual Therimin for that one as well.

Now that's old-school! Reminds me of the dedication of an early Tomita, or Wendy Carlos (back when she was Walter). Sheesh! We've got it so friggin' easy now ...

the secret of the "tardis" noise, a piano string being rubed layed backwads through an FX.

Thanks for posting this, Andy. I wish that I could find the series again myself on PBS or something in the States. Not much support for the arts going on now in the States. [We (as a group) would rather bomb the sh!t out of everybody, and then **** about how much we spent doing so.] Maybe I can find it now on DVD. It'd be kinda fun to have everyone make their own versions of the theme song, and marvel at the variations that result. A Dr. Who theme contest, with first prize being a 1/2" scrap of cloth from the one Project5 t-shirt known in existence ...

Very nostaligic! I didnt really like the series..maybe I was too young.
But I LOVED the tune...I'd sometimes turn it on just long enuff to catch the theme song!

i think here in the usa it is just the christians who want to kill everyone. it is a shame that they can be manipulated so easily by politicians who pretend to be one. if they would just all leave, christians and republicans the arts would flourish here. let us face it god is a group of three different extraterrestrials who have been living on this planet much longer than we have. religion was created by them to promote war and therefore prosperity to the victor. hehe sorry i offended many there but the sumerian text pre-date the quran and the bible. if we just could all realized god is a group of little grey aliens who have been conducting genetic research on us to save their species from extinction we could all get along. we all have one common enemy. most of us just don't believe they exist. :-) i wonder if a lab rat really believes those conducting research in the lab really exist. whoops gota go they want to do some type of electro somethin or another. another day another adventure.

Each sound in the Doctor Who theme was individually created using these instruments, and recorded to magnetic tape. By "each individual sound" I mean just that - each note was individually hand-crafted. The swooping sounds were created by manually adjusting the pitch of the oscillator to a carefully-timed pattern. The rhythmic hissing sounds were created by filtering white noise to "colour" it, as were the "bubbles" and "clouds". Examination of the original makeup tapes suggests that one of the two bass lines alone is a "concrete" sound, a plucked string sample.

It's been a long time since I have seen Dr. Who, but isn't it basically the same premise as The Matrix? Some guy in a fancy coat steps into a phone booth; entertainment ensues.

Whoa, I can't believe so many people are obsessed with who? The remix page is fairly impressive; thanks for posting it. I think my parents used to watch that show before I was born.
