I liked it. I picture a powerful lead guitar solo at around 1:30
    along with power chords.

Wow... nicely performed and mixed. I must know what interface and mike you are using. It sounds quite open and natural (save for the echo and such).

    thanks yall.

recorded in sonar 4 studio, used a mxl 990 mic from marshall, part of a $100 recording pack. I tried vocals before and they sounded terrible, but this time i tracked in a room with lots and lots of cloth and threw some blankets behind the mic to kill some reflections. Also, took a coat hanger and stretched panty hose over it to make a ghetto wind shield.

my interface is just a simple tascam us-122 USB. i was real surprised how clear the mic picked up. also, the picking guitar and drums were programmed in reason, which really helped to keep the mix distinct

Cool song and nice performance. Is it okay if I share some arrangement ideas?

Cool. The main thing I heard was a counter-melody from 1:55 to 2:14. Maybe a cello or guitar volume swells or something.

If you do that, you might have to build on the idea from 2:15 to 2:45. Here's one idea I had that might or might not work: If you use a string voice at 1:55, add a second string voice and switch to more sustained accompaniment at 2:15 . Then add another voice around 2:26, and another at 2:36, and then strings out at 2:45. That might be over-arranging, but something along those lines might work.

Before 1:55 and from the guitar solo on, I wouldn't change a thing. You might get away with bringing back some string accompaniment at the end, but it sounds cool as-is.

Very nice sounding, clear. Darn good for 'first mix'! The notions of countermelody, extra stuff here and there, seem valid to me too. Don't know what exactly, however -- the texture was just a little thin, near the beginning, but you filled it right up by about 3 minutes in, so that build might be exactly what you wanted. The amazing grace quote near the end sounded a little like "want some sauce but now I'm found" (took me a moment to remember what the text should be, "once was lost")!

i will try some string stuff on there, i actually intended to add some there but didn't get around to it because i just needed a break from this song. i will try to post a re-mix when i work on it some more, but for right now i just dont even want to listen to it for a week or so!
