An acoustic guitar instrumental

This is rough mix of an acoustic guitar piece, with some piano/strings/pads to fill
out the sound. Would welcome any comments on the mix or the arrangement.

I must say this is a change from what I've been playing. I appreciate a lot
of different styles of music. This is a real nice piece. Very good job on
it musically and good production. I found it to be a very relaxing tune.
    Enjoyed listening to it.

    John,
I liked it. The guitar sounds very good, very well recorded.
Couple comments: It sounds like you have a lot of reverb on there, some of the lines get lost in the soup; it would be interesting to hear it with less. I generally have the oppinion that less is more, I was thinking the 3:10 or 3:32 would be great places to end the piece, there isn't so much new content after that point, but that's just my oppinion.

How did you record and process the guitar? It has a nice warm sustained ring, perfect for the piece.

Nice piece!! Good chord progressions and changes. The guitar sounds very "close-mic'ed" to my ears like. It gives the impression that a person is listening with their ears a couple inches from the guitar... then lots of verb has been added. To my ears, another mic, a little farther from the guitar, mixed in with the other would sound good... get more natural ambience then cut the verb a little... just my opinion.

    Nice composition!

    Thanks Ed!

    Really appreciate your comments.
Yes, I realize there isn't really too much new content at the end, and I'll think about trying to tame the "soup" as you call it <grin>.

I recorded the guitar with a Rode NT-1 mike placed about 6-8 inches from the soundhole, mixing the signal with the guitar pickup (which by itself sounds dreadfully "twangy"). I also used "D" tuning on the guitar--since that seems to sound a bit better.

    Mike,
Thanks for listening. Yes, you were right on about the "close-miking" (see above). That's a great idea about using another mike placed out further! I like the idea of natural guitar ambience, and I'm thinking it would sound better than artificial reverb, like you said.
I will try that for my next project [since I'm not sure I could re-do all the guitar parts again from scratch!]. I'm still kind of learning about guitar recording techniques...

    Peace/blessings,
