where we find ourselves-jazz vocal

from one extreme to the other. I thought I would put something up very simple with only guitar and vocal. I have to redeem myself from all the comments on my last post "extraordinary daze". This way you only have 2 things to pick on <g>. Seriously, I appreciate all the criticisms I get here.
Greg Chako is the composer and playing a lowden guitar, and Kaleb James singing on my 1977 C414. The story is on soundclick. I offered to help Greg out because he had written this song for his wife that passed on(singing it to his golden retriever-hence the title) and he had heard that I trained vocalists. Well, Greg is a great guitarist but after after 15 minutes we called Kaleb up to give us a hand. I'm sure it's not everybody's cup of tea, but, hey...what is?

God bless.

    hi michael,
this is a beautiful tune .. both greg and kaleb did a wonderful job. greg's
use of dynamics is really well done .. i would make this required listening
to younger guitarists .. who seem to gravitate to the hyper maxxed and
miss out on the wonderful range of the acoustic.

kaleb's vocals are also very well done and the proximity gives nice
intimacy and "air" to the sound.

i just don't know how i'd be able to play through such a piece emotionally..
it would require a great deal of composure. i'm sure it was part of the
    healing process ... tough ;-(

i wish he would have a run up at the end .. it felt unfinished .. but perhaps that
    was intentional.

    jeff

ps: that product placement on your soundclick picture leads me to believe your
    sponsored by Sony ;-) ?

the healing process is still not finished. We are still working on the ending.

    Yes, absolutely beautiful.

Very intimate, you can hear the guitar player breathe, and I think that's fine. Reminds me of those old Glenn Gould recordings<g>.

I always wonder about the stereo field when you just have a couple tracks and the are on even parity. I don't have any suggestions; it's probably the way it needs to be.

That's when a good reverb really comes into focus. Thanks for listening ed. It's always an honor to hear from you.

hi Philip. It works-just tried it. But soundclick can get quirky.

Have a good day. I'm off to bed.

    Hi Micahel,
I love it. It sounds like the Jazz I used to play and perform in Chicago. I would say that on the "t's" "s," and some "CH's you may want to make some nodes in the 7000 EQ bandwitdth to reduce the sibilance on the voice.

I listened over my edirol 10d and listened with theAKG 271 headphones and heard the same thing. I would leave the rest of the voice and guitar alone because it is perfect otherwise. It is definitely somthing I would listen to in bed or in a club with a shaker of Cognac It has a very "autumn" feel. I love it!

Like it, Michael. Reminded me of the Joe Pass Virtuoso recordings, just because of the intimate guitar sounds (and tasty playing). Nice mood.
