Punch in/out with sustain pedal or key?

Haven't found anything in the manual about this. I don't wanna set any punch-in/out regions etc, I just wanna kick the pedal to punch in, and kick it again to punch out. Am I stupid, or is this not possible? (If you CAN'T do it via sustain pedal, but you CAN do it via a key on the keyboard, that's fine too). God, I feel stupid. Really simple thing and I can't figure it out...

You can also use a new track.

You can also program the track to auto-punch.

Keep in mind that there is no real need to punch in/out. That feature was pretty important for a four-track tape recorder, but now you have (theoretically) infinite digital tracks. You can just set your first take to mute at the "punch-in" point (there are several ways of accomplishing this), and start recording a new track (or a new clip in the same track). In fact, you can record multiple complete takes, and then mix and match the best parts, if you so desire.

Yeah, I'm aware of that... the problem is; that the only times I have the need to punch in/out is when I'm recording for example acoustic guitars in another room on my own. I don't feel like going back and forth to the computer every time I make a mistake. I have built my own simple control surface with 30 feet cable; and basic functions like play, rec, stop, undo, rewind, forward etc. Now that my mind has cleared about the "R" key to punch in/out (thanks to you guys) I will just add a foot pedal in parallel to the record button.

    Thanks again!

Many times, when recording a vocalist, or doing my own keyboard overdubs, I am pretty certain that I don't want to keep a bad take, and just want to overwrite the bad take. Hitting "R" when recording a vocalist is not a problem, as I play the engineer's part. But when doing keyboard or guitar ovedubs, I have to keep both hands on the keys (or guitar), and hitting "R" destroys the flow of my playing. I've had to rely on auto-punch mode to get around this, but I miss the days with 4-track when I would use a seperate pedal to punch in/out.
