I do agree that recording, mixing, and mastering should be broken into seperate projects/sessions.
However, You CAN master recordings with Sonar. In fact, there are template in Sonar4.
Here is how you can do a simple basic mastering project.
1) Create a new basic project (you will only need a single stereo audio track - don't even need a bus, just an output).
2) if one does not already exist, create a new stereo audio track.
3) import you mixed (stereo file) to the new track - the final mixdown prior to mastering should be a stereo interleaved file (almost always wav).
4) insert audio effects such as EQ, Compression, and Limiters either directly on the track or on a bus (depending on how you setup the project).
Quick Tip: if you have a good mix and you want to make it "louder" put a limiter on the track - lower the threshold and increase the output gain, but watch the distortion (you'll need some good monitors for this).
