low latency ASIO support

Hi there

been using guitar tracks pro 3 on my desktop for a while with no problems. I have just bought a DELL Inspiron 5160, 512mb ram, 30gig hard drive which is better than the desktop, But keep getting dropouts and rubbish latency.

I am looking at buying the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook card but ithe spec only says low latency ASIO support.

My question to you fine digital musician fountains of knowledge is,

Is this card any good, and does ASIO support mean that I can use ASIO drivers (ok im out of league now)

    I have just looked on the soundblaster website and it says that all Audigy 2 soundcards have ASIO support, so I have another question. External sound card (USB 2.0) or PCMCIA port. I think I would prefer the external (I may want the PCMCIA slot at a later date) but do you lose quality using an extra lead.

    definitely will not lose quality with an external card; be it USB 1.0, 2.0 or Firewire. Some cards (in the higher price range) with fancy built-in pre's, may even offer much better quailty.

    here is a link the M-Audios external cards available, I use the FastTrack, but if you got the $$, Id go for something better. I'm very happy with it but sometimes I wish I had a powered XLR in: M-Audio Cards
    (seems like I've been posting this link quite a bit lately, but it's just a suggestion not pushing M-Audio on anyone)
