New Tune, New Style for me
And now for something completely different from me: http://www.soundclick.com/util/DownloadSong.cfm?ID=2497384 Yes I know its a very rough but for an afternoons writing and recording it's not bad. Sadly the singing's out of tune and the guitar sounds like it's played by a orangutan but I hope the sentiment comes through., Andy

Andy I like it already. I dont have to hear anymore. :) Flavor! bass--->KICK is very large. SInging is on point too. Guitar at around1:40 seemed off a bit but, at 2min I forget about it. Thought if it would have ended earlier or had more breaks(breakdowns) in it would have been even better. But this is real good. I'll shut up now.

I guess the trite cliche is "ship of fools" so this is the I-get-seasick-far-too-easily-so-if-I'm-going-to-be-over-the-water-it's-got-to-be-on-a-bridge version. That's a pretty talented orangutan you've got there. The playing wasn't spectacular, but also not so bad as you make out. Same goes for the singing - some spots could be improved, but it wasn't bad overall. Biggest complaint from me is the handclaps that start in just before midway through the song. I'm reminded of Sesame Street and the song that goes "One of these things just doesn't belong here..." (Or was that Electric Company?) The mix needs some work too, like you said it's rough, but the vocals near the beginning are almost completely lost. Even if you are off key sometimes, making it a little more up front it makes it seem like you're doing it on purpose. The way that it is, it's seemingly a mistake that you're trying to cover up. Actually, some of the singing reminded me of Johnny Lydon (sp?) and he's done well for himself so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hey! This is quite different for you! I love this stuff!! THIS IS GREAT!! Rough is good when it comes to you and live recording! This is very pre-1984 U2 sounding! The chord progressions are reminescent of their first albums, especially Unforgettable Fire. Excellent work, I like this better than any of your electronica efforts to date!!! WOW edit: Ok...I heard that awesome hook Andy, and I hate you!!! I had to come back from my sandwhich to listen again!!! Fabulous piece! The ending flangework is cool! Makes me want to hear the whole chorus done that way!! Oh...the "recorded roughly" type sound is entirely appropriate and indeed provides the song with the right feel!

This is brilliant and your voice is just perfect for it. Reminds me of a lot of the indie bands i was listening to in the early 80's. I loved the production and the arrangement. Like DA, this is my fave track of you'rs by far. You should make more in this style, you do it very well.

it does seem a throwback we all carry so much genre/history with us but it also seems very personal and that seels it and makes up for some rough spots i also like big wide guitar sounds in any context

Mate, The ending of the song is awesome. You have to introduce some of those keys earlier. Said differently: the song is one level/intensity the whole way through. Right at the end you introduce this great new flavor. That needs to be introduced earlier on, and possibly broken down to midway through. I think you're 60% there: arrangement, arrangement, arrangement. I like it, but you hear 'bridge of fools' too often. It's an intriguing lyric, so make it scarcer. And EQ some of those guitars a bit. My 2cents.

oooh, yes. very nice. no more trance for you. more of this! it's obviously a rough start, but i think there should be more indie-tronica (or whatever this style would be called). well, on second thought, you can do more trance on your own time, but don't let it interfere with this.

LOL...see? I said (much to my surprise) to drop the electronica too! This is YOU. It's a sound that remains largely unexplored by anyone on these forums and maybe the world is ready for this re-entry into the "rougher-edged" early eighties exploratory rock/punk wave again! ANDY...I'd love to find a niche like this where it's not so crowded. I think you've found something where you excel AND where you can define something new!! OR.. Maybe it was a one hit wonder!?LOL.. G'luck mate!

this second one was really nice as well. again, rough, but could be cool with some more detailing. i admit to a bias in favor of this because many of my favorite bands are not pure electronica but more "border dwellers" like all my beloved krautrock bands, stereolab, radiohead, mouse on mars, the fall, tortoise, etc... despite my list, da has a point. there just isn't enough music like this, and it has an instant aesthetic appeal. real guitars also sound positively arresting in an electronica track. i am so sermonizing, nes pas?

really... iv heard about 50 seconds of it and im loving it. U said that ur voice might not sound very in tune or something like that and i think that for this kind of song, it fits really well in place. Loving the clicking introduced at about 2 mins :D. UNBELIEVEABLE ENDING! Just like DA said... 'Rough is good when it comes to you and live recording! This is very pre-1984 U2 sounding! The chord progressions are reminescent of their first albums, especially Unforgettable Fire.' I really agree with him there and i thinkyou should stick to this kind of music... REALLY!!!! If this was on an album, i would probably buy it (if it was in a music shop :D) Do u have any kind of cantract??? U deserve one, thats what i say! T

Hey andy, Interesting departure indeed. Sort of has that early-to-mid 90's Brit-pop full sound, but without being blatantly poppy. I'm not quite getting a U2 vibe here, though the minimalist instrumentation is a good comparison. Your voice seems very fitting to the task at hand. I don't think that anybody likes the sound of their own voice! But others do, so it seems. And it reminds me so much of someone but I can't think of who at the moment. It almost has a Joy Division/New Order texture but without the gloom of the former. You could have a lot of fun with some Peter Hook bass noodling... I Would like to hear more from you in this vein of things. Bradster
