Complex Routing Conundrum!

Hey all.

I'm recording a big session next week, and am trying to figure out how to route everything. Unfortunately, there wont be a mixer involved, which is where the main problem arises.

I'll be mixing within the computer while tracking, and need to be able to route the mix to an external 2trk unit (CDR) as well as back into the computer.

The problem arises if I solo a track while recording, whereby the 'mix' is no longer the full mix, but only the solo'd track. What I want to be able to do is monitor through speakers whatever I like, but to send the full mix (ignoring solo/mutes) at all times to another bus. The only way I think that's possible is to put a prefade send on every single track. But then the fader levels wont be replicated...

Aaargh!

Any ideas to make it as painless as possible?

Cheers,
Ben.

    MOTU 2408mk3

Have plenty of physical outputs to do what I want. It's just a question of finding the neatest way to do it in SONAR....

I realise I could use the CueMix feature of the card, but thats yet another window to manage in an already complicated enough session!

Cuemix is really the only way I could think of to do this. It doesn't use any cpu.

You should definitely get to know the cuemix. It is a great feature and basically eliminates the need for a mixer if you got preamps.
