sonik synth 2 jacked my computer please help

So pissed. I use a dell 9300 laptop inspiron 1.6 gig 512 ram 60 gig harddrive spins at 7200. I also use a firewire m-audio 410.

I just got an m-audio usb keystation 61es... I then installed sonik synth 2, got it work for about 2 minutes and now my computer keeps crashing and also wont let me record at 24 bit anymore. Or even record at all.


Please help I have no more energy been up all night and I am just spent.

um do I not have enough ram for this program or is processor too slow? Anyone?

You should go to Sonik Synth's site and go to their support page as this has nothing to do with Sonar.

uninstall both of your new installations.
see how the computer runs after that.
then install one only (i rec. the midi interface).
play with it and make sure all is running fine.
make sure you can record 24bit, too. if not, try uninstalling/reinstalling your drivers for the soundcard.
once everything is fine, set a system restore point.
then install Sonik Synth.
i have SS working fine, but it def. puts a strain on my system.
if everything goes to hell after SS install, then you know exactly where the problem lies... and you can roll back to the restore point.

I have a 64 bit Athlon Desktop with a gig of RAM, and Sonar sessions with SS take noticably longer to load up than any other sessions -- others pop open almost instantly... SS sessions take a good 30 seconds. Lord knows why. Best of luck.

BTW: SS also has PACE copyright protection which some on these forums rail against... it could be causing the problems for you.

If after doing everything over you're still having crashes/problems, I'd search the forums for PACE threads. (I've never had a problem with it myself, but others consider it a virus.)

Where did you get that information?

In case my last post wasn't clear, there is no PACE in the SS2 software.

My bad. I thought all the IK multimedia stuff was PACE'd.

I have a feeling loading all the presets at once is killing the system. i just want to be able to grab synth sounds quick but I may need more ram for that?

You might want to think about going with more memory. Squids usually recommends a Gig of memory. SS does not have disk streaming and loads all the samples into memory, which is starting to like like where the problem lies. I didn't mention this in my first post, because I didn't think that had much to do with your original problem. It sounded like you had something that had effected the whole system. More memory won't make things load faster, only a faster processor can really do that, but it will allow you to load more sounds at once in your project. Turning off the scan at start up will definately make it load faster and is a tweak you could do. You really only need to rescan when you create a new child preset, and it can be done only when needed.

Another thing you could do is load one instance of SS for each instrument, and then freeze each instance. This will make your projects load faster, and will definately stetch your resources, but freezing and unfreezing, then refreezing takes time, too. Just curious, how many instruments were you loading at once when it was crashing?

Obviously, the faster the computer, and more memory you have, the better things will run, but to state that seems almost like an insult,,,, FWIW, I'm running a P4 2.8 with a Gig of Ram. HTH

i guess there is an option to use dxi or vst but vst sounds better and eats up more ram.

So the moral of the story is always install a fresh version of windows without SP2 if you can on a factory computer. My sonik synth loads faster than **** my computer works great and thats all folks. Until my next dramatic encounter .Take care

The reason I suggested you go to the Sonik Synth website is that in your initial post all you stated was that Sonik Synth crashed your DAW. No mention of using it with Sonar. Sonik Synth is made by IK Multimedia. IK Multimedia requires registration of their product before you can get tech support or post on their forums. Recently, we've had a rash of people asking how to operate third-party plugins, for serial numbers and even copies of the full version of Waves Platinum plugs. Now, I'm not suggesting that you're using a cracked copy of SS but I am suggesting that the best place to ask questions about a third-party product is at that product's website.

I actually bought this at West La Music and did receive a call from Ikmedia after I left a message. There are so many things that can cause problems when recording music. I wanted to speak with people also running saonar and Sonik Synth together. I think the best advice for anyone buying a new computer is to wipe the drive clean and reformat and start from there. I have also found that SP2 causes alot of problems so dont use that if you dont have to.
