Don't Bother Talking To Sonic Timeworks

Because of a house fire, I lost my 4080L reverb. I still had the serial number (or maybe it's a key) but they could not help me.

I gave them my address, phone number, several email addresses that I might have used when I bought the reverb. But the best answer they could come up with is "we couldn't find your email string in our records."

So what! I paid for the 4080L reverb. They should have my name, address, phone number, etc in their records. It should be a simple thing to set me up again with the product I already paid for.

No big deal. If I need the 4080L, I'll get a cracked one somewhere.

    Dude,

    I feel for you.

Use a cracked copy. You know you paid for it!

Software companies en masse are hiding behind dodgy agreements and legal contracts that allow them free reign to mistreat the consumer all day long, under develop their software, over market it, and then never offer meaningful support or warranty.

    In your case....f*&k 'em!

Its actaully pretty superceded by better algo's now anyway!

It sucks, but I agree. Limewire time.

The best is always yet to come. Now...shut up and make some noise!

You can just download the 4080L from the website. Install it and use your licence key.

If you still have Sonar 2XL(assuming you might),then you can just install it off that CD,if not Dave T's advice should work.

Since it was CompressorX and Equalizer that came with SONAR 2 that won't work.

    1) If your gear is listed on your house insurance contents, then there will be no problem.

    2) At the end of the day keys can be borrowed copied etc. They are covering themselves. In your case this may be a bit raw though.

    3) We are all a bit slack at this, but we should do copies and back up DVD'd, CDs etc and have them in off site storage in case of these events. (office desk as an example :-)

Surely there is some other way you can prove your purchase, as mentioned with credit card statements etc. Also as someone mentioned, just download it from the site and plug in your key and ta da.

Do not use cracked software...you put your system at risk and only lazys and crazys would do that to their studio.

     Yes.

i believe this is actually scare-mongering - it's easy enough to virus-check stuff, and most cracked software merely have an edited exe that avoids the cd/key check. i have installed "cracked" exes for stuff to avoid having the cd in the drive at run-time, no probs.

I know it doesn't help, but I had the same problem with a little outfit called Microsoft.

My copy of XP, along with its box, got lost in a house move. Hey, no problem, I registered. But MS tells me that doesn't matter. No written POP, no replacement. $300.

    I didn't have insurance.

The file was a download, not on CD. Although I did make a backup and hid it well. (too well)

I feel a cracked software debate coming.

    i don't see any debate -

    Download it and use it.

People only get precious about these things when people haven't paid for software - you have, and therefore if I were you I wouldn't sweat it.
    Whatta they gonna do eh?

I've used cracked software in the past to get round PACE - so do most folk. The value is in the money you paid for the product. If you don't pay then that's piracy and shouldn't be condoned - otherwise what's the diff.

It does sound to me like Timeworks are being more than a little bit lazy. . . .

    Kind regards
