Importing Home Studio projects into Sonar 4

Here's the deal: I ordered Sonar 4, but it turned out I was a wee bit too close to my credit limit. (Oops!) Anyway, I do have Home Studio 2 (which I haven't used - long story). I'll probably grab Sonar next month. So my question is: is there any difficulty in importing Home Studio projects into Sonar? Or should I wait until Sonar arrives before I get serious? I don't want to do a bunch of work and find out there is some difficulty moving the project.

I apologize if this is an oft-repeated question. I did a search on importing from Home Studio to Sonar but couldn't find anything relevant.

Thanks!

As I noted, I haven't actually used Home Studio yet. I just received it. (I'll give you the long story now: I actually ordered Music Creator 2, with an eye on becoming a registered customer so that I could get a good discount on Sonar 4 Producer. As it turned out, Cakewalk had some sort of mixup at the fulfillment center, and I received Home Studio. When I called Cakewalk, they just said, "Hey, it's a better program; just keep it." So I did.)

So am I do take it that if I save my work under the right file extension I can import easily?

Come to think of it, now that my TASCAM US-122 interface has arrived, I also have Cubase LE, if that would be easier to import. But I'm assuming it would be simplest to import from one Cakewalk product to another.

If its a .cwp (cakewalk project) there should be no problem. I don't see any reason why it should be saved differently. Try the Home Studio forum and ask them what file extension their projects save as.

I migrated from HS2004 to SONAR 4 PE with no problems. I saved my HS2004 files with the CWP extension and they came in perfectly in SONAR.

    Best,

    Hi,

Long, long time user of HS9. All HS file types are compatible from .bun to .cwp to .mid etc.. HS is a cut down Sonar (used to be ProAudio). All files work properly but the interface is a bit different.

    good luck...
