MIDI Drum Controller

You know how some keyboards have the 16 little pads for playing drums on.
Does anyone make a unit that has only those pads and not a keyboard attached?
I've seen drum machines that have a bunch of samples built in. I don't want that, I want just a controller.
I'll use all software samples in Reason and Sonar.

Anyone seen this?

Roland makes (or used to make ) the Octapad.
Also, if you have an Alesis D4 or D5, (drum modules) these units have trigger inputs.
While they were originally made to be used with a set of pads, you can re-trigger existing drum tracks as well. Also, you can, because they are standard 1/4" in's, even use a microphone to trigger sounds. I suppose you could use a 57 and go directly in with a 1/4" adapter (afetr all, you're not going for fidelity, you are simply using the mic as a triggering source) and you can assign it to whatever drum patch you wish, and at that point, use the midi outs of the module to record the midi information into a sequencer, although you would still have to come out of your sequencer back into the module to hear what you had triggered/sequenced.
I used to use the D4 to retrigger bad sounding drum tracks during remixes, and had a great deal of success, as long as you gate the original tracks properly to avoid "ghost" or "false" triggers.

    Just a thought...

It would so cool to have a drum replacement tool built into Sonar. It seems to me that they are going to have to include more plugs like this in the next version.

At this point all they can do is give us more tools...oh, and the gapless editing thing would be cool, and looping that doesn't let some tracks slowly drift out of sync...

    Listen

    Sonar 5PE
    Intel DP35DP, E6750, 3 GB, 80GB/320 GB
    Scope (6 DSP) w/A16 interface
    PadKontrol, Legacy Series MS20, EZDrummer.

What would be ideal for me is a set of Roland V-Drums, because I could be much more expressive and creative if it felt like I was playing a real kit. Unfortunately I can't afford that right now, so I'll probably just get either the Akai or M-Audio drum pads.

b rock and others have written a lot about the Trigger Finger on the Project 5 forum -- see:

I couldn't resist - very cool New Toy!
    The Trigger Finger
    Trigger Finger / Enigma Tutorial.

The Trigger Finger sounds like a better option than the Akai MPD16.

Just my 2 bits - (and yes, I want one)
