Armed for Automation help needed please

Hi,

Here's my problem. I arm a track for volume automation with my control surface (Behringer BCF2000) and in the midst of the automation the sliders want to jump back to the original position after i make the volume adjustments on the fly. then when I try it again I can't get the faders to take control of the volume. Instead the timeline takes control of the faders. This does not happen with the panners only the faders.

What am I doing wrong. I'm using the Mackie emulation mode and I don't think it has anything to do with the fader (BCF). I'm sure there is something I'm missing in setting up the automation to accept the fader input without sending the midi fader position back to the BCF2000.

What are your thoughts?

If you've already made an automation pass, you can't overwrite it in console view. You need to go to the edit menu and undo the automation move before doing another one, otherwise the faders, etc.. snap back as you described. The only way I've found to redo an existing automation move later is by using the envelope tool in track view and redrawing the wave/envelope. Hope this helps.

I see. So I guess it's get it right the first time or go through a proceedure to start over again. Thanks for the input.

Umm... actually you can. Only there seems to be a bug, see this thread.

stephenlnoe - sorry, no clue what's the problem, it should work. Anyone else?

This is a basic problem with Sonar. It needs latch and trim modes for automation with a CS. Latch will let you change the curve by moving a fader. When you let go, it will revert back to the old curve. Trim will let you change the curve but will not revert back when you let go of the fader. So you can go to a bad spot with latch mode and insert a new curve there without changing all the other parts. Trim will do the same but it will stay where you leave it so you can change the whole curve from a point.

Is this something that is planned for update, I wonder? I use Pinnacle Liquid Edition and it's mixer allows mix automation as many times as needed and works like John suggest. This is absolutely needed for 5.1 surround as well. Anyway, It's a fabulous release for Cakewalk.

Does anyone know if this has been reported?

    thanks...

I have asked for it in the past and they were going to put it in but they didn't If we all yell about it now who knows, it may happen.
