First of all, this is a USER supported forum. If you want to speak to Cakewalk (the company) you have to contact Technical Support.

Home Studio XL2004, the Guitar Tracks PRO, Sonar 4, Music creator 2 and pyro plus

Why would you buy HS, Guitar Tracks PRO, Sonar and Music Creator? Your story seems quite fishy to me.

They'll work with just about any soundcard. How well they'll work depends on the quality of the soundcard and the Realtek AC97 is not a pro-level card so don't expect great results. You probably need to set the Driver Mode to MME to make it work. That's as much help as I'll give you because I'm inclined to believe you have pirated software.

By the way...There's no doubt in anyone's mind that you have "pirated" software...Don't expect much help here...It's obvious you are a "thief"...If you truly want to learn, save your money and purchase legit copies of the software you want to use...

Unfortunately, all that software you just got is no longer any good.

    From the Llcense Agreement:

"2.4 You may NOT transfer the product. If transferred, the subsequent and original owners forfiet all rights to use the software."

In other words, neither you NOR your uncle may use those copies of the software any more. That's probably why Cakewalk tech support wouldn't help you. You are now officially a Software Pirate. Hidey Ho!

You really should consider another hobby. This is not for you.

If you want to record music, start with a tape recorder or the Fostex 8-track recorder since those don't require you to know how to use a computer.

I really like golf, but I stink at it so I don't play anymore.

    LOL
If I gave up recording music altogether I'd probably still read this forum.

It's always a good place for advice. I might give up golf too, I was never any good.

    Syd.

    Syd

I went to a driving range once. I got pretty excited when I finally managed to hit the ball 30 yards.

Ok papa2004, fair enough, I do take your point here. Sometimes arrogance can pay off after all.

I don't think it was arrogant. I think it was sensible.

He's got a bunch of software, all of which is illegal and he doesn't know how to use a computer. I suspect his computer is probably not up to snuff either.

So should he struggle with the learning curve of a computer and recording software, or spend $300 for the Fostex that he could use to learn multi-track recording?

You know he is going to try to use all that "free" software he got, but he is only going to get frustrated. I'd love to see the note that he gets back from Cakewalk Technical support.
