Pattern Editor Start Point

Ok, this is probably a farily ignorant question, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to set a new start point when creating a pattern in the pattern editor. In other words, I want the pattern to always start at bar 2 for example. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Smithy.

There's a little yellow triangle marker hiding at the top leftmost margins of the editor grid...it'll be at the 0 measure mark.
You can drag it to wherever you want EDITOR to start playing back.
If you want your pattern in tracker to begin playing back from there, then you need to right click the pattern in EDITOR and choose "Split From Marker". This creates a NEW pattern however, so you'll have to reapply it in the track view window.

    DigitalAura,

I was just reading your response to smithy269, and I have a quick follow on question:

If you have a 4 bar loop in the editor, and you want to start the playback of the loop on bar 2 but retain all 4 bars, how do you accomplish this? It sounds like you would split at bar two, and then somehow paste "bar 1" at the end of the new clip that has "bars 2-4". What is the fastest way to accomplish this, assuming it is possible? Thanks.

If you are intending to make this play back in the arrange pane, why not simply slip edit the 4 bar pattern to bar 2 manually and let it play out from there?

You can set your "snap to" settings accordingly, to help you do it perfectly.

So...you would want to put bar 1 as the last bar then? Im confused... I think LabDog is on to something though.

exactly what i would have said :D

You simply put the pattern 2 bars after where you want it to come in. Then you drag it back by the edge to where u want it (extend it) backwards.

Its alot easier inpractice than it is to explain :D

Thanks Guys, I'll try this. My ultimate destination is the groove matrix, so I'll have to try slip editing prior to dragging the clip into the matrix to see if that works.
