Blue Screen on Startup

It seems like after I installed a Lexmark printer on my computer my Sonar 4 stopped working. When I click on the desktop icon it seems like its going to start and then I get the "Blue Screen" and my system restarts. So, of course I un-installed the printer and removed all of its registry entrys. Still the "Blue Screen." It only happens when I try to start Sonar 4; no other programs cause this problem. Any ideas .....

Just scatter shooting but are you sharing a serial/parallel/usb port with the printer and a MIDI or audio device?

lexmark is infamous for loading spyware in their drivers, and it's a fat chance that you removed the spyware when you uninstalled the drivers. take that POS lexmark and burn it in effigy, then run some spy/adware removal apps, maybe that'll solve it, otherwise format c:

No. They each have there own port and it happens even when I have the printer unplugged. When the 'Blue Screen' pops up it immediately restarts my computer so I don't have time to read the information on the screen. I also just noticed (I am using a Digi 002R interface) that when the interface is turned off the Sonar 4 program will start with no problem. Those of you that use this setup know that in order for the software to recognize the hardware, the 002R must be on before software startup. So the fact that it starts without the 002R is no help at all.

Next time you boot hold down F8 key. Should give you an option to "Disable Automatic Restart On System Failure" so that you can read what the BSOD says. I'm sure it's driver related.

Sounds like the lexmark install overwrote some system files perhaps.

There is a fight over which driver a device is going to use.

Hopefully you can boot in safe mode (safe mode, only loads barebone drivers)
and disable the driver or device you suspect is source of conflict

Quirky idea, but in safe mode, see if you can enable "share drivers with other programs" in Sonar settings.
    Just to eliminate Sonar.

Hey, you said it only happens when you start Sonar.

Ah! Kill all Startup batch processes that are related to sound.
And/or related to the leximark? Device.

You can safely, remove ALL startup processes. (if you're not sure which)
but may need to put a few device type back later, but not crucial, no biggie

I would also scan my "Services" under "Admin Tools"
I am willing to bet, leximark has a chair in services, and they are set for Auto (upon boot) change to manual.
    Reboot

Tell me if this means anything to you ...

I can start SONAR4 when I have the Digidesign 002R (which I use as my interface) turned off. In order for SONAR to recognize the 002r, the interface has to be turned on first. Then, when I try and start the software, POOF!!!! Blue Screen. I get 1 of 2 error messages. The one I can remember is Bad_Pool_Caller.

Since my last post on this subject, I have removed all extraneous software and cleaned my registry as well as removing spyware. I also no longer beleive it was related to installing the Lexmark printer since I have removed all traces of that software. I've also tried the suggestions mentioned in the replies to this post.

I am using a Compaq Presario 2500 with P4. I have a firewire connection to my interface and external HD via 1394 cardbus.

I hope all of this further information helps you guys help me.

    Any ideas ...?

Interesting concept that I didn't want to give much thought to, seeing as I switched from ProTools software to SONAR becauseI couldn't get protools to work with my computer or it's own interface. I was pleasntly surprised when I found that SONAR worked right out of the box with no computer tweaking needed. Mind you, I messed around with ProTools for months with the result being no music production for months.

So, here I am again (about 30 days) with no music production going on and all of this expensive crap on my table.

I guess I could always take my Akai MPC2000 and DPS12 out of the closet. Come to think of it, I was rockin back then ....

Have you seen any other posts about this blue screen problem?

I've been using Lexmark printers for quite a while and have never experienced any spyware problems (and I run my adware at least once a week)...

    Just my $.02 worth...

More info as I try and tackle this problem once and for all.

The two errors I get are:
    1. Page fault in non-paged area
    2. Bad pool caller

Windows support is saying: Error caused by a device driver.

I was able to start the software after re-installing the Digidesign hardware drivers. But, when I shut the software down to tweak some settings (I have that issue where when you shut down SONAR you also have to shut it down in the task manager) I get blue screen when I shut it down via task manager.
