You are most likely fighting some serious latency issues. First what Operating System are you using? I imagine XP if so then you have barely enough ram for that, XP will soak up about half of what you have, and other resident program can cut into the remaining, for serious audio work, you need 512 Ram minimum. Next you need to take some time and read everything you can on how to setup the computer to record, unless you have a beast of a machine set up is everything. when you record turn off all resident un-needed programs, like antivirus, Popup stoppers, and firewalls. anything that runs in the background. next make sure that the buffering slider and buffer settings are optimized for what you need, Post the current settings and we might make some suggestions. Last but not least, you mentioned that it does not record properly, record what, what are you trying to do record from a midi keyboard, write in staff, or piano roll? or record audio from a mike or guitar? this information matters as to what we can do to help you.

I hope this is helpful, and that you will post back with the reslults and we can help you along the way. Robo

Thanks for the info. (very helpful).

    In response to your questions:
    I'm running win98se
I record in wave format for the most part. I plug directly into soundcard with a mic, guitar, bass, or drum machine.

My sampling rate is set to 48k hz - File bit depth is 16 - buffer slide is centered
HD write behind cashing is off - directx 8.1

I just noticed while getting info for you that the sound card supports only up to 44.1 khz so I'll bring it down from 48.

Actually SB cards work at 48,000 htz, so make sure that cake and sb are the same.
