Midi Ports Not Showing with Names from Instrument Definitions

Hi,

I'm new to Sonar (4.02 PE), but very familiar with Pro Audio 9.

In PA9, once you defined an instrument to a midi port channel, it showed up on the track pane with the port number + the INSTRUMENT name. Sonar seems to ignore the instrument definition when it comes to the port selection and just shows the instrument when viewing/selecting banks and patches. I find this really annoying and as I don't want to have to remember what every port is assigned to (especially since you have the ability to assign different channels within a midi port to different instruments).

Anyone know anyway around this - or why they changed it?

Thanks in advance...

You can name the ports somewhere in the registry, AFAIK. Some MIDI interfaces come with applications to handle that transparently, e.g. my amt8.
