Edirol FA-101 and Sonar - Experiences?

I have been using Home Studio 2002 (WDM drivers only) with older soundcards for a while with no issue. I recently bought a FA-101 and discovered it just doesn't seem to be working with HS2002 (XP stops with IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN errors whenever I try to do anything!). I've tried pretty much everything to check/resolve hardware conflicts.

I have used the FA-101 successfully with ASIO drivers under the Cubase demo, but unfortunately HS2002 has no ASIO support for me to try.

I have been thinking of upgrading to Sonar and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Edirol FA-101 (under WDM or ASIO) and has got it to run successfully with SONAR?

Any response would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard

    Richard,

I hope someone can give you a more comprehensive answer than I can, but seeing as no-one yet has, I'll offer what help I can, although I do not use the FA-101.

This device is included in the Cakewalk Open Hardware Guide for Sonar, so it should have no inherent problem at working with Sonar:
    http://www.cakewalk.com/Tips/audiohw.asp

And Sonar 4 does work with ASIO Drivers.

That said, it may well be that something in your hardware setup and system configuration is causing your problem, or maybe the problem lies with HS2002, which is a bit out of date - others have posted problems on this forum before, eg:

    http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.asp?m=495922

It might be worth your while to search the forum's database.

On the basis of what I have seen, I'd say you'll more likely than not be OK with S4 and the FA-101. You can also download a free demo/trial if that helps:

    http://www.cakewalk.com/download/default.asp#windows

I hope this has been at least of some help to you. Best.

I use the FA-101 with Sonar Pro 3.1.1 and everything works well. I do use it in ASIO mode to get low latency real time playback.

Have you contacted Edirol. They were very helpful with me when I had a problem with the FA-101.

    Good Luck,

    Thanks for your answers.

I have downloaded the Sonar demo and it appears to work fine in both WDM and ASIO mode, although I think ASIO will be best because it identifies (labels) this ins and outs more sensibly than WDM.

I have also been trying with Edirol support and they appear to be quite willing to help but I suspect is may just be a HS2002 issue since the FA-101 appears to work fine with Sonar and Cubase demos.

Oh well, looks like it might be time to upgrade software!

    Cheers,
    Richard

Sorry I'm late to the thread, but I use the FA-101 with Sonar 4 and it works just fine. My only issue with the FA-101is that you have to manually switch it between 44.1 and 192. It would be nice if it could figure that out on its own... Yeah, I'm lazy.

Used it with Sonar 3 and 4, no problems. The only gripe has already been mentioned, when changing sample rates between projects you must close Sonar, power down the FA-101, change the rate knob, then switch it back on. But performance has been great. I use it now primarily for live recording with a laptop.
