Late midi responce

Hi all
I was trying to use bfd and my key board to play a drum track. It had a slite delay after hitting the key before the sound would come out.I thought it might be the key board so I tryed my roland v6 drums with the same result.
This problem also happens when I use the slayer plug in.they are the only to midi progs Ive tried.

Thanx
Joe

That's called "latency". Try a forum and online Help file or User Manual search first, and if you still can't resolve the problem, please post back with your hardware and software specs.

Hmmm. Are you using an M Audio card perchance? If so, you made need to get a new MIDI interface.
Check out the "Bye Bye" posts if you want to see the hell that problem caused me.
Are you supposed to be some kind of "troll"? Why are people dissing you?
AI seemed to be one of the people who was sympathetic to my herculean problem and he's apparently flaming you. Why?
As far as the "sorry to need help, I won't be back", I know that position quite well. That's why I'm no longer a regular on this Forum ("Right, rallenjones, I thought you WEREN'T coming back?!? Get lost!)
    Is Susan G dissing you?
I thought she was one of the "good gals".
I'm probably just missing something and making a fool of myself as usual.
If it is a real problem, try a new MIDI interface and check out about cleaning your registry.

I think Al's reaction was due to the guy's name "JoeCracker." This may be an innocent name choice or it may be an early admission of guilt.

Joe, we are fairly senstive to the subject of software cracking and the illegal use of Cakewalk software in particular. Sometimes people come to too quick a decision. Sometimes they are wrong.

Assuming you bought your copy of Sonar legally, welcome to the forum. As susan stated, there is some good information about this in the manual. The thread that Rallenjones mentioned has a lot of stuff in it, but I don't remember the answer to his particular problem being posted. It's possible that I missed it.

Mike's right, that's all it was on my part (note the wink in my reply!). I did offer you a suggestion, and asked you to provide more information re your system, which is pretty much always required to troubleshoot problems like this.

I get a pushing and pulling of the midi (like towing a volvo with a rodeo rope) if I have certain reverbs plugged in when doing my midi laybacks. So I try to turn off all audio effects when laying back. Anyone else?

    Joe,

We really are here to help - or at least, try. What soundcard are you using? If it's an SBLive or any other "low end" onboard audio device, you should try this driver:

    http://www.asio4all.com/

Also, read the section on latency in the Sonar FAQ - the link is at the "sticky" section at the top of this forum. It's been awhile since I read it, but I think there were some tips on what to do to lower your latency (which is what you want to do).

If after that you're still having problems, come back and we'll try something else.

Yes it is a sblive and thank you for the link.I'm reading my manual right now(something I should have done earlier). If that doesn't work I'll check out the FAQ's.

Thank you very much, you've been very helpfull.

I think you will find that a different audio card will help a lot with the latency issue. I was using and audigy when I first purchased Sonar. I was able to use it but the latency was bad and playing a synth live to record it was nearly impossible. I picked up a delta 66 and never looked back. you have invested in some great software now get some great hardware to go with is and you will not be sorry. There are several other cards that offer low latency as well. Good luck.
