Search and Replace
I used select by event to select all control 64 on ch 2 and I want to change everything that was selected to channel 1. How do I do that as there is no replace menu on the 'Select by filter'. I seem to remember an older version of Cakewalk had a replace menu on the 'Select by filter' but I don't see anything in the help for Search and Replace. Any help would be appreaciated Mik

From the Help Menu: If you want information about the Event Filter - Search dialog box, see Event Filter Select Some/Search/Replace dialog.

OK, I read that help before and Ive just read it again and I don't see where it tells you how to globally change the selected items. Pro-Audio 9 used to have a edit-interpolate that would accomplish that but it's not in this version of Home Studio 2. There must be some way to Globally change the selected events but it's not made very clear in the Help-Search menu. Mik

When you select by filter on a certain criteria, the events meeting that criteria will be selected, then, - and because those are the ones being selected you can set a new value for those (such as setting a new velocity value or velocity change (using +) and all the selected events will be affected by that change globally.

OK, I tried that. I went into the event editor and select all. I then went to the 'Edit' window and choose 'Select by filter' and turned everything off except controller and typed in 64 in the 'Min' and 'Max and when I clicked ok all my controller 64 events were selected. This was in track 1 which I just copied all the event 64 from track 2 into but they are all set to channel 2. Now that I have them selected I went to the first event on the list and select 'chan' and decreased the channel number by 1 using the - key and all the other selected controller 64 that had chan 2 DID NOT change. Only the items channel number on the one I was editing changed. I'm obviously missing somehting here but what I don't know. The old Pro Audio 9 did it with no problem. Maybe they took out the ability to globally change anything in this version? Mik

OK, I think I have found a bug of some sorts. I was playing with the event editor and I did a ctrl-a to select all. I then went into the channel editor and changed it to 1 and all the channels changed to 1 except the controller 64 events. They stayed at channel 2. It look like you can't globbally edit controller events? or something else goofy is going on. Mik

It look like you can't globbally edit controller events? or something else goofy is going on. Do you really need to change them? The "Ch" popup on MIDI tracks controls the output channel for all events in the track. It's really an "override" setting. If it is set to "none", then the MIDI event goes out on whatever channel is stored in the event. If the dropdown is set to a specific channel, then all data will go out on the specified channel, "overriding" whatever is stored with the event. So, if you change the "Ch" for Track 2 from "None" to Channel 1, that might work for you.

I guess I will have to do it that way as I sent an E-mail to Cakewalk about that fact that you can't globally edit the controller events and they sent back an E-mail stating that with Home Studio 2 you can't globally edit controller events but you can with Sonar. I have a suspicion that it really is a bug but instead of fixing it they are making like it is a feature offered in another product, which sounds ludicrous to me. Why would they partially allow midi editing in one version and full editing in another. You can edit all the events globally except for controller events but for some more bucks for Sonar version will give you the privlidge of editing all the midi events. They can take both their Home Studio 2 and Sonar and stick it up there ass as far as I concerned, I'll find another company that offers Midi Editing software but with more respect for their customers. Why would they partially allow midi editing in one version and full editing in another. I think the only way to do what you're talking about in Sonar is to use CAL. The Event Viewer works (or fails to work) in the same way in Sonar as it does in HS. I think it is very reasonable to include CAL only in the higher-end package. There must be some incentives to upgrade, after all...

I've never used P5, but I would think that its nearly $450 price tag would allow someone to expect better MIDI capabilities than a program costing less than half as much... Regards, Papa

ORIGINAL: Mikalias I have a suspicion that it really is a bug but instead of fixing it they are making like it is a feature offered in another product, which sounds ludicrous to me. Why would they partially allow midi editing in one version and full editing in another. I agree 100%...Even my old Cakewalk 5.0 for DOS has that capability, but HS doesn't. I think that's an underhanded way to get people to pay for their other software, especially customers like me who have been Cakewalk users since the DOS days. This is yet one more reason why I'm spending more time using the Linux based "Studio To Go" package from ferventsoftware.com instead of paying for more HS upgrades...
