Sonar 3 --> Sonar 4

I read the thread on the Sonar vs. Samplitude and it got me thinking about having to upgrade from Sonar 3 to Sonar 4 just for the improvements on the sound engine. Any of you noticed a difference in the sound quality after upgrading from Sonar 3 to 4? Always looking for that extra little percentage to make the mixes sound "better."

BTW, I don't do surround sound...

    From my humble point of view, S4 produces a more "clear" sound. The transients keep more sharp in S4 compared to S3.

    cheers,

    I did the upgrade recently and I can not hear any audible difference in my setup. I didn't know that the audio engine is S4 is supposed to be audibly better than S3. From my perspective if you audit a pure (no FX added) audio track, it shouldn't matter what software you use. I also didn't notice any difference playing the same wave file with Windows Media, winamp, iTunes, etc ..., provided I'm playing through the same sound card.

    The improvements in the sound engine (from what I understand) focussed on the smoothness in performance, not sound quality. If you want better sound quality, you need to look at your sound card. There is a huge difference in an SoundBlaster 24bit and a MOTU 828 mkII, for example, mainly in the DAC and ADC's. You may want to look into that.
