OT: PA - Mackie vs EV

I'm looking for a small PA setup (10"-12" 2-ways and a sub most likely) for house parties and to use for A/B comparisons to get an idea what my stuff will sound like in a club (I mainly do house music).

In the past I've rented Mackie SRM450s for house parties and was really impressed with their sound - tight and accurate and punchy. I've been looking around and had planned to pick up the SRM350s (10" driver) and the Mackie 15" sub.

My usual equipment guy at Sam Ash doesn't have the 350s in and says it may take him a month to get them. He says that he actually prefers the EV SX100 over the 450s and they're quite a bit cheaper. Plus he says that while he mainly has rock and country people buying the Mackies, dance/rap (closer to my style) people are buying the EVs for the most part.

I've been doing business with this guy for quite awhile, and he's never steered me wrong yet, but I have no recent experience with EV gear - does anyone here have any info that may help me make this decision?

TIA

I think he's full of it. EVs over Mackie???? I don't think so.... He's a salesman.... you can't trust him. Do your own research. Check www.harmony.com
