XP Pro's Backround Activity..How to Turn Off???

Greetings,

Can anybody point me in the right direction to turn off any and all unnecessary backround operations within my XP Pro OS?
The computer has no internet connectivity so I don't have to worry about any anti-virus program running. Screen saver has been de-activated.
What else can be done and how??
I am running SP4 and am about to embark on saving the world with my craft and can't take a chance on any surprises from my OS.

    There have been several threads on the board about tuning XP for music. Here is a link on the subject http://www.musicxp.net/tuning_tips.php that discusses turning off background services.

    Hey scook,

    Thanks! ...btw; got invited to Austin to cut some heads (back in mid '80's)..had 3 month's worth of survival...ended up staying 8 years. Someday I'll go back to settle. Texas is a world of it' own.
