Problem With Recording The second Track

Ok, I'm new to recording at home and I keep running into a problem that I cant seem to figure out. Recording the first track works just fine but once I start another track recording with the first one playing back the track records the first track's playback onto the second track, as well as what Im playing. I have the 'record' setting turned off on the first track and I cant figure out what setting I must have messed up.

I have an Audigy 2 sound card, if that makes any difference.
Can anyone help me out on this?

In the windows or soundcard's mixer applet, you need to shut off "what you hear", and make sure that ONLY the hardware input that you are using is selected as the active recording source.
