Routing audio track output to external application

Hi,

I have Sonar 4 installed on my computer. Recently, I installed Virtual Audio Cable (see http://www.ntonyx.com/vac.htm for more info) in order to route the output of the audio tracks in Sonar to the input of the virtual cable. I want to use the output of the virtual cable as input to Skype, so my idea is to stream the audio tracks directly to the Skype application. The problem is: Sonar 4 does not show the Virtual Audio Cable driver as choise for track output. Every other audio application does (e.g. Sound Forge). Also, Skype can accept the virtual cable output as 'in' device.

So my question is: why doesn't Sonar show this driver as it does show SBLive driver?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Z, welcome to the forum! I'd guess you haven't enabled the port in Sonar's setup. ERmm Options/Audio/Drivers.

Well, the port isn't shown under Options -> Audio ->Drivers, niether in the input nor output driver lists. That's the thing that confused me...

What's your driver mode? If it's available in SF, I would guess VAC is only exposed using MME.

This is what i found on the VAC website: "You can use MME and DirectSound applications at same time, and VAC will mix all sounds together". I suppose i can't use VAC with Sonar. BTW, what type of drivers does Sonar recognize? I also have usb headphones and can use their driver (MME, but not sure) to output the audio from Sonar. Thanks.

That's probably the problem. Sonar can operate in MME, WDM-KS and ASIO driver modes.
