    In a word wrench, Autechre.

And I mean that in a very good way.

The way you start out off running with a powerful groove, then immediately pile on more percussion is a hell of a way to begin something. The different and diverse layers really combine to create a deep soundscape. I especially liked the stuttering pad. Did you gate that?

There's almost a hint of a melody trying to escape at times.

Better than the beginning was the end. And I mean that in a good way also. It's nowhere near a fadeout, but rather a ride off into the sunset.

This will play very nicely with Random Equations. (Where is blipp? Again.)

Great job. So the wrench flu and the visting mother-in-law proved to be artistic inspiration after all? That which doesn't kill us only makes us stronger, eh.

p.s. Oh, and I liked the Fish one too, although it's very different that this. I had popped it down last week and gave it a listen but didn't have the chance to post a comment.

Which all goes to remind me that I have to get back to making some tracks. So many fragments, so little thread.

    thanks Bradster,

i've become a little worried that the more theory I study and apply, the more bland my pieces have become, so it was good to read your kind comments.

I especially liked the stuttering pad. Did you gate that?

that's Uhe's Filterscape doing stepping/gating and filter sweeping at the same time -- a preset called pad chopper -- an dit does it all with remarkably low cpu

without blipp as a tried and true weather vane on what works or not, it's a chore once you've worked on a piece so long you can't tell if ity sucks or not. blipp seems to have dropped off -- let's hope just for the summer

the quiet week on Lake Superior and finally getting rid of my ear infection has proved more of an inspiration than anything that came before

Wow this is pretty sweet...Probably one of your best pieces. I love the chaotic feel to it. If you get into it check out the French augmented 6 chord. The way that Debussy uses it is building on the same chord into a resolution.

Anyways back to the piece really nice ending and some great sounds. I would maybe add a melodic theme but it's a very good piece.

    thanks triscuit,
i'll look into that French 6th

this piece jumps keys to the extent that i'm not sure it makes sense to try and figure it out. relies on a d sus 7 as a sort of start and end and touch point for going off here and there. kind of a cool thing about not 'declaring' the d as major or minor it allows some roaming based on common notes and such

sometimes it's not a good sign when triscuit likes a piece
    narrow banded appeal
which would seem to be the case here since a fair number of hits/plays and no comments -- here and elsewhere -- and when a piece has wider appeal that's not the case

I belive you shouldn't limit yourself. Let go of normal boundries and let yourself drip into musical bliss. Free your mind of normal thinking and embrace your true passion. Dare to dream music and let music become you. The possiblities are endless and only limited by how you precieve them. What is interesting is new and fresh. Don't let people put you in a box or you will always end up serving them.

Gotta agree with everyone so far. Think your music is getting better. Liked Oscar's Fish too.

Yeah I liked this peice. Nice tense sort of brooding beginning and I particularly like the cool textures that result from the sound choices. The whole thing just has a really nice evocative feel to it.

    thanks sean and Brandon,
    somebody seems to be listening
it's picked up a little mometum on the soundclick charts after a slip

but it's all an inevitable slippage
which is ok as long as a few people listen and enjoy

    thanks
