New Song:The Seventh Scroll

Hi guys and gals,
Been working on this new song for 2 days, just finished it.I tend to record a song then totally lose interest for a while,so i only do it when i get the urge!!!
Bit of a part-timer!

The song's called The Seventh Scroll,i got the name from a book i've just read by Wilbur Smith.

Here's the link to the song:

The Seventh Scroll

The equipment i used was:

Soundblaster Live! 5.1 with 5.1 speakers.
V-amp Pro
Smartloops Dry Studio Kit for drums
Bass was midi run through the Dyad DXi left over from home-studio.
and last but not least: a cheapo Vintage Les Paul V99 Left-Hander.

It's not brill but would be nice to know what you think about it.

Cheers for now,
Dave

    mate I like it!
a good example of how even a soundblaster card can be good in the hands of someone who knows what to do with it..
    keep up the good work!

    Hi dave

The performance sounds good... nice guitar lines The melody lines are memorable and the tune and structure is well put together. The only nitpik I have would be with the production. It seem really thick in the highs (maybe 5K-8K) and a bit thin in the mids and lows. I'm not really an expert at this, hopefully some of the folks who are will chime in.

    Overall, very nice!

    Thanks a lot!

I had a lot of fun doing it over the past 2 days.

The soundblaster serves it's purpose for me,only use it occasionally to do songs.

    Mike:
I'll try and tweak it a bit but it must be my 5. 1 speakers that are giving me false impressions!!
I'll have to leave it for now though because my ears are numb!!

    Thanks for listening.

    Hey Dave,

Good song with good playing and nice tones.

As someone else said though, I think it is too crispy in the high end. I would smooth it out somewhat. If your speakers are giving you false impressions you could try using an analyzer to see where things are getting a bit "peaky".

    Thanks everyone.

I get the general idea of what's not so good about it.

I've had a quick tinker with it and put an eq on the final mix.
I'll play around using eq on each individual track when i get time, to try and improve it further.....

Could you let me know if this sounds any better please?

    The Seventh Scroll

    Thanks for the helpful comments,
    regards,
    Dave

I think I grabbed the latest mix, which sounds pretty well balanced. Good drum sounds, but a tad too much cymbalia going on there. You don't need to accent every bar with the bronze as it detracts from the guitar playing. The kick is just a bit too high in the mix and defeats the snare, so you could both bring the kick down a bit and pull the snare in more with a bit of compression.

    Thanks for that Paul!
I did get a bit excited with the cymbal crashes, just to give it a bit more life.

I'll try your suggestions and have a play around with it some more...

It's nice having other people listening and commenting,my ears need a rest i think

    Thanks for the help

    Okey doke.

I've posted another version of this and tried to up the bass and toned the cymbals ever so slighlty.

Could you let me know how this sounds please?

    The Seventh Scroll

It's very bass heavy on my system,to the point of rattling the speakers.

    Thanks for any input.
I might learn how to do this properly one day
