    Stu,

This is by far the best sounding mix I have heard from you to date. Nicely balanced, everything in its own place and space..... and smooth.

I like the tones on everything. The bass sounds very nice. Could use a bit more definition, but not very much. What you have done still works. I am being nit-picky. And though I do not personally like the kit spread out that far..... toms.....it seems to work for the tune. The kick seems a bit too hot as well.... maybe pull it down about 1.5dB. Everything else seems okay.

I just gave this a very quick listen through, but those are my initial thoughts.

Hmm..... This sounds very close to one of my mixes..... any reason for that?

You and Tim make for a winning combination. You guys are going to have a very good sounding album when it is finished.

    Gotta give it

Yeah... what Chaz said. Sounding pretty darned good!
You know who your voice reminds me of Stu? That guy in New Order... I think his name is Bernard Sumner or something.
A couple quick comments: you might want to back off on the 'clickyness' of the kick, and maybe give it a bit more beef. And the cymbals that come in at 2:08 have a strange swishyness or phasey kind of thing happening. It could be from the mp3 conversion, and if that's the case, it might be an indication of too much high end EQed on them.
Cool song! You be learnin' good!

The best is always yet to come. Now...shut up and make some noise!

I second the suggestion on reducing the "click" of the kick drum. Other than that I can't find too much to nit-pick about. The cymbal thing does sound like an mp3 conversion artifact. All around great job by both of you.

    Stu,

There is no doubt that you learned some things from the "Don't Ever" bundle. I hear them implimented in this mix; which, is on a whole new level for you.

Great mixing job, Stu! It is good to know that I had some small part to do with it, even if was indirectly.

    Hi Stuart & Pilfa,

Everything sounds very good, i especially like the
drums and vocal sound. Everything flows nicely.

I feel a couple of sentences in the verses could be
touched up a *tiny bit*, meaning, the way the words
are phrased IMO.... but could also work as is.

The vox reminds me of that 80's band "psychadelic
    (something)" can't remember the name.
    Very good job guys!

    Stu,

Ditto on the mix. What's your secret?

The vocals are pitchy in spots but the vocal tone is spot on.

Damn I'm jealous of all the great singers on this forum! Great stuff guys!! Well played well produced well mixed. How did you record the vocals what microphone? --as if that could help me. I like the unexpected acoustic break into the solo. Call it a pre solo?

don't worry about being pitchy. It never bothered Bowie or Richard Butler (the guy out of the psychedelic furs)
Good tune, good mix. The guitar solo doesn't end very well, leaving a blank gap before the chorus comes in, but otherwise it's a great effort.

Awesome mix, sound very good. I did hear distortion in the left channel during the last few notes of the acoustic break. I hope it's not my ear phones, I didn't see anyone else comment on it.

    nice stu and pilfa.
    I would:
    1. take out the cymbals in those sections (not hats) or hat them hit every 2 measures-they're coming at me too much.
    2. Have the hats be pedals during all those tom movement sections (on the 2 and 4) instead of 8th notes. If you like that kind of movement bring in a tamborine and place it in the back with some reverb.
3.Lower the kick 2 db and take a little bit of the attack out of it (around 2-5k -3b/ search the lower frequencies (between 63-125) and see which frequency seems to make this particular kick sound a little wider/warmer.
4.Would be nice to have one more instrument come in to differentiate between the different parts other than just the drum pattern changing-could be organ, could be a guitar line doing sustained notes, bass could change more drastically to have a bit more of a staccato feel. Would also be nice after you've gone through the verse/chorus once and you are in a sense "repeating the song", at that point it would be nice to introduce something new into the sonic spectrum to keep listeners interest.

    Good job.
