Why pay for an MP3 encoder when you can use LAME?

LAME is the encoder, but you need to pay the 19.95 to activate it. And from experience, it lives up to its name, Lame.

Funny how people have utterly different experiences, innit ? I've used LAME for wav>mp3 conversion for years & have never had anything other than excellent results.

NB. LAME is freely & legally available to all on the ol' intarweb. & the only payment required is some time spent reading how to use it correctly.

I use Adobe Audition to encode, rip, and generally fardle about with my files.
I wandered in here to see if anyone else had been annoyed by having to dig through their folders to find the original "Cakewalk 9 pro" disk, with each new build, so they could output MP3 files, to at least avoid being spammed by the app. every time they hit the "export as MP3" button.
BTW. the cakewalk encoder has never been much chop IMHO... not enough control.
Audition/Cool Edit has always been the better product, at least for me.

Sorry if this doesn't help to solve your current "challenge"...as I said I wandered in here after reading the topic header, in the hope of finding that Cakewalk had decided that MP3s are really rather common these days, and decided to just let it become a regular option, rather than a sales opportunity

(edited due to the dreaded typoman, and to fix poor English)

I've tried to use it at lower bit rates and it pretty much sucked. At higher bit rates it seems a lot better. I user an old Sound Forge and it seemed to work fine at the lower bit rates.
