Spectrum Analyzers

Hi All,

I was wondering which spectrum analyzer plugin you would recommend.

I am particularly interested in the following two:

Element Audio Systems Inspector XL v1.01

Voxengo's Span 1.6

I know that one is $49 and the other is free, but i am more interested in the quality and flexibility of the product.

Before I finish, let me just thank all you guys in this forum for all the valuable help you provide to all of us trying to learn.

Mike

Cheers
Mike

I'm a big SPAN fan, and all of the Voxengo kit in general.

I does everything I need, and the new version supports the Katz, K level metering system.

It's free. How can you go wrong?

One more for Span. And pretty much all the Voxengo stuff.

Elemental Audio also has a free one.

To me the EA one looks cooler, but is smaller.

SPAN is nice, but if you're thinking about spending a few bucks, you might consider getting GlissEQ (that's where the SPAN technology came from). With GlissEQ, you get an excellent EQ, plus a spectrum analyzer, plus the ability to overlay spectrums from multiple tracks... very nice for handling tracks with competing freq ranges.

I use SPAN, Soniformer, GlissEQ and Behringer DEQ2496 spectrum analyzers. The folks at HarBal are working on some real-time type changes if you like that interface and EQ. Currentyl HarBal uses a static average of the entire song, unless you change the EQ that is. They're working in some other type of averaging that responds to different sections of the song like verse, chorus, solo break, etc. I haven't seen how they plan on implementing it yet though...

They're both excellent and different. Span is great as a well-designed, easy to read, low-overhead frequency analsyis. But that new Elemental Inspector XL that you referenced is also quite useful since it adds FFT spectral analysis plus the PAZ-style phase depiction. If it's selling for $49, then I think its underpriced.

    Hey JT,

You are absolutely right the Inspector XL introductory offer $89.00.

Guess I was lucky, because I was a mailing list subscriber I recieved an email with a reduced introductory price of $49, but only if ordered within 48 hours. I took the offer and bought it.

    Again thank you all

    Cheers
