Need help with an echo problem

I recently got a lap top, and installed cakewalk on it, but didn't ahve the correct sound card to record with Cakewalk. So I went out and bough a "Sound Blaster Live 24-bit external sound card" and am now able to record on cakewalk, the only problem is that anything I record echoes. Even when I'm ont recording if I talk into the microphone it echoes like mad, and it's not the mic or the sound card because everything records perfectly fine on the generic sound recorder that came with the lap top.

I'm wondering if anybody knows how to fix this problem, I would be extremely greatful if so.

go to options/audio/input monitoring and unhighlight anything in the white box.

Make sure that you are monitoring from the external sound card.
