Playback distortion with Delta 1010

I just put a Delta 1010 card in my computer and now I'm getting distortion on playback... it sounds kinda like a tape slowing for a second and back up again and it gets grainy. It only happens in Sonar, all other apps work fine. This didn't happen with my old sound card. I talked with M-Audio and they couldn't find anything wrong. I have a fast system and it's not a utilization problem or IRQ conflict. Has anyone experienced this issue? And yes, I've installed the latest patches for Sonar and latest Drivers for the Delta 1010. Thanks guys,

-Ben

    Ben:
Verify if you latency settings aren´t too low, as 2-5 ms. If it are, put it in a conservative ratio, as 15-20 ms.
Have you re-profiled your soundcard? If no, make this. You can, rather, with Sonar closed to delete the Aud.ini file, located in the Sonar folder and to open Sonar, which automaticly will make the WaveProfiler procedure. If it not make this, start the Waveprofiler manually.
Also check the Audio Driver Bit Depth settings for verify if it´s correct.
    Post the results.
    Good luck!

You did remember to re configure in sonar?

I had a very similar issue with my Delta 1010. I raised a support issue with Cakewalk, and their head software guy ("Ron Kuper" I think his name was) took a look. He mentioned that he could see a bug in M-audio's WDM driver, but mentioned that the ASIO driver should work fine - and it does.

I then raised a support issue with M-audio. They told me just to use the ASIO driver. So that's what I do and the problem hasn't happened in ASIO.

If you go ASIO, just remember you need to launch the ASIO panel to set the latency from Sonar's audio dialog box. The latency slider only works for WDM.

    Cheers,

Juca, I did try the latency and different buffer settings with no luck. I also re-profiled the soundcard a few times and still same results. I checked the sampling rate in the driver, but not the bit depth. Do you know where you can see the bit depth in the Delta Drivers? Thanks for the help!

Do you mean run the wave profiler again? If so, yes I tried that to no avail...

Bill, I did try the ASIO drivers as well and it still has problems. I didn't adjust the latency though. I will try that too. Maybe an older WDM driver for the Delta might work? Thanks for your help,

    Hi Ben:
I haven´t the 1010 (two Yamaha DS2416 here) but in my system the Bit Depth setting is in the Options/Audio menu, below of the sampling rate.
Are you using Sonar 4? If yes and if you installed the 4.0.3 patch, I highly suggest you delete both the Aud.ini and TTSSeq.ini files and after this run the Waveprofiler procedure. After I did install the patch, I had any problems, only solved with the delete/reprofiler procedure (only reprofiling not solved the problems). I believe the parameters in this two files was altered with the patch and if you maintain the old ones you´ll more subject for to have problems. I haven´t another technical arguments about this, but this did work fine for me.
    Try and post the result.
    Greetings.

Thanks Juca, and yes, I installed the 4.0.3 patch. I will try deleting those files and will let you know the results. Take Care,

Well, it looks like I've narrowed it down to the Delta and not SONAR as the problem. I can't play anything at 24 bit without it causing slight distortion (and it seems mainly in the quieter parts of the music). It seems like it's trying to play 24bit in 16 or somthing. I tried different drivers, etc. I guess I need to call M-Audio on this one, but if anyone else has seen this with their computer, I would be interested. Thanks,

In the Delta Panel, set the buffer size to 128. Then launch SONAR and reprofile your card. Also, use 3 buffers in SONAR instead of the default 2. See if this fixes it.
