Controlling velocity in the dr-008
Hi guys, I was wondering isn't their a way to control the velocity of the dr-008 using the velocity settings on the midi track that the dr-008 is assigned to? Also can anyone shed a little light on automating the dr-008, I didn't quite get it from reading the pdf manual. Thanks in advance for any help.

As far as automating the DR-008, I have no idea either - the manual was next to useless when it came to this. Controlling the velocity can either be done by changing the velocity of the individual midi events in the piano roll or by drawing a volume envelope in the midi track, similar to the way you draw volume envelopes for audio tracks. There are also some coo things you can do with velocity using the Velo Master Lite (came with S4) as an FX insert on the midi track.

Thanks Rick, I'll try that as soon as I get home.

Velocity is sent to the Dr- 008 just like any other midi device. The "note on" message from the tack has velocity info in it and wil trigger the Dr-008 at that velocity. There is nothing to do - it just happens automatically.

Yes, but if I want to change the velocity later on how would I do that? You edit the individual track notes or you use the MIDI velocity plugin or the velocity offset in the track or any of the other velocity editing fucntions in Sonar. Same procedures for all MIDI.

Hello vintagevibe, I've tried everyone of your solutions, previously, except the midi velocity plug-in which I will try later. Thanks.

Edit the tracks, or use "Process->Velocity" menu command on the track. If you change the "velocity slider" on the track, however, it will affect ALL velocites that are on the same device/channel, so it's best to separate your parts onto separate tracks (that's how I do it) and then you can adjust each part by editing as above. I discovered that the problem only occurs on 1 kit in particular, in this kit I am using the ultra sampler module, is this the normal behavior for the ultra sampler module? Is there anyway to change to a different sampler module (like the easy sampler) for an existing kit? Thanks.

Hi Open up one of the Ultra Sampler modules you're using. At the left hand side bottom half you will see a vertical column of dials that say attack, release, decay, v.sens. Just above those dials there is an "on" button. Make sure this is lit. Try it now. My guess is the velocity isn't responding because this button is off. If this is the answer check all the other "on" buttons for the other Ultra sampler modules. Try a play with the v.sens dial too. Regards Graham

Thanks Graham you were right, when I turned that envelope button on then I was able to control the velocity. I appreciate the help.
