You really think your going to get all that ram

Does anybody have any Idea of what mother boad would support a terrabyte of ram. I'm no expert in this field but how big would your computer have to be fo fit all those sticks in there. What technology exists to produce this claim.

    Windows supports a 32bit framer.

Works out that it can only use 4 GB of RAM

As where the new 64 bit frames can use a 8 GB.

    Research it. Your find out.

Not many... ;) The motherboard(s) in this server can handle it though:

Now that's a little more in my budget , I'm sure. But I really am looking to build, yet another DAW. I was liking the Athlon 64 4800 dual core. Is somthing like that the key to running the most possible plugins? And what would I couple with that to reach that objective?(more plugins)

Wow 192 PCI slots! How many UAD1 plugins could 192 cards run? With the I2 proceser you probably don't need UAD's , it's got a 6 meg L2 cache!

here's my new daw that i'm planning to build. powerful and silent (using my existing HD). the 4800+ would be a maximum of about 9% faster than this CPU (2.4GHZ vs 2.2GHZ). i think this would allow among the most plugs. you COULD build yourself a dual opteron with dual core opterons for a total of 4 processing cores

    ATHLON 64 X2 4400 $543
    MSI K8 Neo2 Motherboard $103
    1GB Corsair XMS PC3200 Ram $128
    Antec Sonata Case $93 $-
Thermaltake Sonic Tower Passive Heatsink $49
    Graphics Card TBD $40
    TOTAL $967

If I could do just about the same power that I'm trying to get for less, I am all for that. Like i said I'm no expert in the field of building computers or knowing what to put with what for best performace. I would like to have a more powerful machine that I currently have intel 3.0 ghz. I want the best for sonar 5. Is there any specs on a dream machine for sonar. Maybe I'll look back at the sonar test post if it's still valid thanks.

I just built a similar system: MSI Neo2 Platinum, AMD 3500+, 1GB OCZ 2-2-2-5 OCZ RAM,-dual head GEForce FX5200, Thermaltake XP90 (2 existing 120GB 7200rpm Maxtor HDs). The system is fast and stable...now. I found the MSI board/bios to be a bit of bear to config. The bios has A LOT of tweakable parms and many settings produce unstable results. The Rebel Haven Forum is a great resource for help configuring the board.

I don't know if the CPU cooler your're going to use is similiar to the XP-90 that I used. To use the XP-90 with the K8n Neo2 Platinum and an AGP card, the cooler has to be turned 180 degrees from the usual installation position or the AGP slot will not allow installation at all. On my system, the XP-90 in that position just barely covered the processor edge nearest to the AGP slot yet there's lots of heat sink contact area hanging off the other side. I bought a 90mm ultra quiet Nexus fan for the cooler and it runs around 41C and is quiet but I don't know if I'd go with that solution again. If I did it again, I might go with the Gigabyte board instead. Still, I'm pretty happy with system as it is. No troubles at all with my Delta 1010 and Sonar 3.

i've verified that the sonic tower works with this board and an AGP card and the antec sonata case. the heatsink is massive but its very effective and PASSIve. no fan! here it is:

You beat me to an edit. I used a ThermalRIGHT XP-90, not Thermaltake.

That looks like a winner. But most of that stuff is way over my head. What I would like to do is get a list of must have components for a very powerful and stable machine, Hand the list to someone who can build it, pay for it, and make music.

You sould check out Advanced Design Kentucky. If I didn't have a case, ps, & drives I wanted to reuse, I probably would have bought a system from them. Scott from ADK hangs out in the Gear section here. Seems like a good outfit to deal with though I haven't bought from them myself.

    http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/main_product_xp90.htm

The XP-90 needs a fan but takes a large, slow, quiet 90mm fan that on my system is quieter than the drives. It seems to do a decent job but I'd probably go with something else if I had it to do over again, especially since it needs the reverse position placement in the MSI board.
