I can't see why your Soundbalster shouldn't be fine.

My question is why would you pay all that money for Sonar 5 and have a crappy soundcard? Is this a joke?

You'll need to order a DSP co-processor from creative.

I think I've learned (also by scanning other threads) to never take HammerHead seriously. His avatar kinda freaks me out...

hi darrell, if you're using a sb that uses the 10k1 or 10k2 chipset (sb live, audigy, audigy2) you really should check out the kxProject drivers which are an infinite improvement over the official creative ones p

Hey! Thanks Pwal! I'm actually using SB Audigy in one of my DAW. I'm about to get M-Audio 1010-LT to replace this one though, but I will give this update a shot so I can just move this SB card to another DAW.

Check back in when you install the M-Audio 1010, you should notice a difference. The SB Cards are toys meant for playing games. It depends on what you are trying to do and your tolerance for turning your sound card into a hobby. AXE

I think the word "crappy" for the SB card is probably a bit overdone. Although I'm sure others have had problems with them. I still have an old SB in an older Win98 (yup!) machine which runs Reality midi synth. My main machine is using 1010LT. The thing that I definitely noticed right off the bat was less noise on the newer 1010LT card... The SB card isn't awful, but it has more (and hear-able...is that a word?) noise.

The specs of a SB Platinum or an Audigy can be compared side by side to some pro-sumer cards. Don't go by technical specs - Creative's lousy audio drivers and non-existing customer service are legendary. I learned this years ago the hard way, no piece of hard- or software from that company will ever be tolerated in my house again.

quote: The specs of a SB Platinum or an Audigy can be compared side by side to some pro-sumer cards. Don't go by specs, use your ears. There are a lot of mics with the same 'specs' as Neumann and Telefunken that don't sound as good. Same with pres and almost anything. There is more to things then specs.
